Just imagine looking at this Verlander deal from a Mets fan perspective. They end up having to pay in the range of $100mm over the term of the contract once you factor in tax dollars it cost them plus payout to JV, for 16 starts of JV, Gilbert, and Clifford

Their owner isn't a cheapass like crane. The money is irrelevant.

Yeah, I maybe the biggest Dubon fan only because, well, the beginning of the season was nothing short of miraculous but he doesn't draw walks and he doesn't have any power. Dubon is the perfect solid utility guy. Little mistakes in field and a average to good contact batter(this season).

The money is irrelevant until it isn’t at a certain point he will get sick of flushing hundreds of millions of dollars down the toilet if there aren’t positive results. Granted it doesn’t appear that point is close yet

The New York #Mets are sending the #Astros about $54 million in the Justin Verlander trade, one executive said, if Verlander's $35 million option in 2025 becomes vested. Verlander is owed about $93 million, meaning the #Astros would pay Verlander about $29 million for 2 1/3 years

I need to ask Supah if he ever had time to put a mustard stain on his Verlander jersey.

Martín Maldonado has been in touch with Justin Verlander for the last few days as his trade negotiations progressed. Maldonado said it got more realistic at 9:30 today. He found out the trade was happening when Verlander sent him a text this afternoon “Let’s fricking go,” it said

Such stupid things said to illicit responses.

Cohen is in his own league when it comes to lighting money on fire. Buying prospects at these rates is not great business, both financially and team-building wise. But he's got it to burn so whatevs.

This is wrong. Sorry. Dubon, who is at his best this year, is a worse hitter (OBP and OPS) than Jake and about even with Julks, a rookie with more potential at the plate.

Statistically they are all 3 extremely similar. However, while they have more power, Julks and Meyers strike out a LOT more. I'd definitely rather see Dubon come up to bat than Julks in an important situation. I think Meyers and Dubon are about tied. But I still say he's not the Dubon of last year. He is better at the plate than last year.

Today is the 7 year anniversary of Yordan's trade from the Dodgers. Which clearly means he needs to rest today. FODB.

I mean, his stats this year show that he's still inferior, at his best. Jake is a better OF. Julks has more potential, and a team trying to win a WS should be trying to upgrade from him. Dubon is a nice utility bench piece. That's it.

You lose draft picks for doing that not just money

You can still use a strategy that makes it advantageous to load up on upper tier prospects in a highly regarded draft like this year and just punt on next years draft.
