I’m not saying they were more deserving of a national title, just that based in common opponents, they were equally matched teams.

Fact of the matter is the system that everyone agreed to and played under to decide the national champion was the BCS. Just because it didn’t go the media darlings way doesn’t mean the AP gets to decide who gets the title. That AP “title” is literally meaningless under the system everyone agreed to
correct. Just because some silly media poll picked another champion doesn't mean a thing. Media polls were rendered meaningless after college football agreed to use the BCS, and now a playoff, to determine the champion.

Hell, you and I could start a poll and determine our champion. But it doesn't mean a thing. The BCS championship game determined the national champion in 2003. End of story.

I just ignore all of that crap. There was one championship game set up according to the rules that were established before the season started. It was played in the Superdome, we won it and I was there.

AP historically voted the national champion before bowl games were played. That’s just the way it was for decades prior to BCS era. In 1959 LSU was crowned AP national champions but didn’t surrender it when they lost their bowl game. Don’t see any LSU folks complaining about that.

Then why did they bother getting the Coaches’ Poll to make the BCS winner their #1 and use their trophy?

LSU beat Clemson in the Sugar Bowl following the 1958 season. They were #3 in 1959 when they lost the rematch to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl.

You are correct that the AP (and Coaches’ Poll) had their final poll before the bowls originally. That changed for the AP in 1968 (with one trial year after the bowls in 1965 to Alabama’s benefit). The Coaches’ Poll didn’t change until 1974 (also benefiting Bama in 1973 when they lost their bowl to ND). Alabama also won the NC in 1964 despite a bowl loss. The timing of the final poll never benefited LSU.

LSU won’t the BCS national championship game and we’re the BCS national champions.

USC was voted by the AP poll and were the AP national champions.

There is nothing wrong with either one of these two things. I’m not sure why LSU fans are so upset about this.

It's not about being upset. It's about being factual.

LSU won the BCS national championship.

USC won the Rose Bowl and a few media clowns voted for them to get a participation trophy.

LSU won the Sugar Bowl and the Coaches’ Poll. USC won the Rose Bowl and the AP Poll. The BCS was just an agreement amongst bowls to make it more likely there would be a consensus national champion, but there was no guarantee. They still relied upon the Coaches’ Poll to legitimize their champion.

Michigan was #4 in the BCS and AP going into the Rose Bowl and finished 6th. But don’t let facts get in the way of your rambling insecurity

LSU won the National Title game. The Sugar Bowl just so happened to be the bowl in the championship rotation.

They won the BCS title game that had an agreement with the Coaches’ Poll to rank the winner #1 in their final poll and award their trophy to them. They were still leveraging the poll system to provide legitimacy.

the post that he was responding to acted like USC won a bowl game and ours was not a bowl game also. If you’re not following, you wouldn’t understand the context of his comment but it was correct..

MikeTheTiger 71 I applaud your efforts to correctly explain the facts around a very unpopular and very misunderstood chain of events.

Eh, the system everyone agreed to is how the Coaches poll champion was determined, it just so happened that was the first year in the BCS era that the AP voted differently.

Yes, but the AP poll was considered just PART of the BCS points formula in 2003, just like several other selectors. In fact, the New York Times computer poll was another part of the BCS formula that also didn't pick LSU after the BCS title game.

So was the Coaches’ Poll, which is the national title awarded to LSU.
