It was Pete Carroll, creating a diversion. Everybody signed on to the BSC. Caroll saw an opportunity to stick to the “old ways“, and hoped for sympathy from sports writers and fans who couldn’t wrap their heads around the new BSC format. Caroll simply, and arbitrarily declared he was national champion. I’m also king of England because I said so. Carol is an a-hole.

AP writers at the time in the LA area =45

AP writers in the entire state of Louisiana at the time =9

They were never going to get the AP behind them. We got the real hardware move on.

Rick: you don't think the media is overwhelmingly liberal?

Good grief, man.

So everyone agreed that the BCS NCG would determine who the season's champion was.
AP said before the season that they would proceed with business as usual. So no, not everyone agreed. You could argue that USC agreed.

The reason the media pushed USC is because that's who the media voted for. The media also loves controversy, so that's what they gave us.

If the shoe were on the other foot, LSU fans would feel the same way as USC did.

Media voted and that’s it. You can’t change a final vote and it’s been over 20 years ago so get over it. Who cares?

What's pure folly is that we beat the #1 BCS team (Oklahoma) and USC beat #4 Michigan.
Then Pete Carroll exclaims 'I think we just won the national championship.' (AP), and ignores the agreed-upon BCSNC.

But, THE NEXT YEAR, USC win the BCS National Championship, and magically forgets about the AP. Selective hyprocrisy.

USC won the Rose Bowl and the AP Poll.

They were cheating anyway. USC had to vacate their 2004 title, but not the AP.

You think the AP means anything when they won't even penalize cheating?

It's kinda like a presidential election. The BCS was the electoral college. They decided the president. The AP is the popular vote, and they're only mentioned when a Republican wins the electoral college but a Democrat wins the popular vote and the media gets pissy.

Again the agreed upon BCS was to crown the BCS national championship. There were no rules in place that said some other source couldn’t also win a national championship. In this case it happened to be the AP which was the first ever poll to declare a national champion so it gets a lot of recognition.

It’s also the first trophy ole Pete lifted in the air the following year when he won it.
Because it was the only one given out on the field because the outcome of the coaches poll was already known.

They won the AP poll, who cares, we have the trophy..

If you don’t think market size matters, you are naive.

This is also why the saints took the fall for concussion gate…

Both teams have a trophy presented by one of the two major polls.

No, it wasn’t. It was the Coaches’ Poll trophy that had been presented since 1986.

yep, and UCF claim a national championship from a few years back.

Utter nonsense.

The BCS championship game was the top 2 teams, selected by a complex formula. These top 2 decided it on the field. Most college fans understand the BCS champion was the real national champ.

Let USC have their championship. And UCF too. It's all silly.

We won the BCS. We're the champs.
