The amount of time kids spend at school and doing homework is outrageous. This isn’t a bad idea. The main problem is that most families need 2 incomes and can’t be home for their kids

School needs to be year round.

The kids already have plenty of days off.

If you don't think teaching is one of the worst jobs in the democrats America, then I can't help you.

The 4 day work week is superior to the 5 day week. The only better schedule is to work 7 days straight with 7 off straight.

Give me a break. Not one single teacher said a single word about the students.
I get it, that’s kinda shitty, although with all of the bullshite red tape in teaching today it is a bit of a hassle but I’m not acting like I’ll catch ptsd or something over it.

So now parents are going to have to take off every Monday or hire a babysitter every Monday because teachers are too fricking lazy and stressed out to teach 5 days/week on top of all of their other holidays, fall, spring and summer breaks?
in their defense, the 4 day week schools I’ve heard about go longer to the hours even out. I think most do 7:30-4:30

You are telling me they are gonna keep high school and younger age kids from 8-6
children don’t go to school for 40 hours a week. They go for 35 usually. So it wouldn’t be extended from 8-6 it would be more like 8-4:30

Kids not giving a shite about school is directly due to parents not giving a shite about their kids education. Not every child needs to be an Einstein, but every child needs to at least try. If kids are blatantly not trying and there are obviously no repercussions at home, the parents should face some sort of penalty.

Yep. Teachers just teach. Kids learning is a direct result of parental involvement

While a ton of admin do suck and are not qualified to manage people, they are stuck in impossible positions most of the time. It's the politicians and school boards that have created the current situation that really suck. You can't tie funding to test scores and passing rates and not expect actual learning to take a nosedive. Until no child behind goes away nothing will ever change.

I taught for a few years before leaving for a new field but this is absolutely correct. I had a few beers with one of our assistant principals at the end of semester Christmas party and prior to this, I thought admins sucked and were essentially worthless. Come to find out, after a few drinks, this guy started opening up about how frustrated the admins are as well. How they don’t wanna send that shite kid back to our class after bad behavior but the district makes them. How they don’t wanna make us do the cumbersome bullshite new program that some weasel got the board to adopt for that year, but the district makes them.

Their hands are tied just as much as ours are it seems.

I wouldn't even call that time off since they're not getting paid

I agree with most of the points but who's not getting paid during the summer? They still get the same salary just paid more through nine months instead of less pay throughout the year.

Note defending teachers because I think they do complain too much but I have nephews in a 5 day school and a niece in a 4 day school. Summers are about 9 weeks for my nephews but my niece's school with a 4-day week has shorter Summers of about 7 to 8 weeks.

The problem is a lot of households are two working parent households that can't just go to a 4 day work week or decide to work from home one day. So you are making parents send kids to daycare for one day, which would be very expensive or quit their job to care for the kids the one day. It just isn't feasible unless there is a change in full time working hours.

My kids go to a school that uses the 4 day/week schedule.
My kids are not burned out at the end of the week and my middle child(if you have a middle child you know) is performing much better, although this probably has more to do with the loving teachers at this school.
(My kids are very active so they don't game or lounge around the 3 days they are off)

It does add a ton of stress on my wife and I every Friday when they are off since we both work full-time and have demanding jobs.

On the bright side a 4day/week schedule should come with a pay reduction...right?

In Finland, younger kids go 20 hours a week with much better results.

They have parents who care over there. The length of school day isn't relative to learning.

Also, if students show lack of effort, parents should get in trouble. We need to incentivize kids giving a shite.

Go interview the parents of students showing lack of effort, then propose the best way to hold the parents accountable.
