Well he has MILLIONS of reasons not to.
I think there was a time MLB starting pitchers threw on 3 days rest. I understand we live in a different era. Skenes didn't pitch a ton prior to LSU. He threw a total around 30 innings as a Freshman. He threw 85 innings last season. Not a ton of wear on him, IMO. He should be in great shape. If anyone can do this it's him. He's a hoss.

In today’s world I’d say it’s common for MLB pitchers to go on 4 days rest…..there’s also plenty times during the season where they get more.
The bottom line is Skenes has done it once that we know of and then you ask him to come off that 4 day rest outing with a 3 day rest outing…..I can recall that happening in the World Series once maybe recently

That’s not LSU’s problem
Eh it kind of is. You don’t want the reputation of running your guys into the ground. Soon there won’t be any guys wanting to play for you, we’re not some head and shoulders better program than the rest of this field and even some teams that didn’t make it.
You really don’t want the reputation of running guys down harder than would would happen basically anywhere else in baseball.

Right the World Series and the guy was getting paid 8 figures a year to do it. Not college baseball which is pretty much a niche sport anyway before the guy has gotten paid anything.
What some people are asking the guy to do in this thread is fricking insane.

When JJ gives him the option, he will take it. Skenes is a competitor.
That female that roams the field/dugouts, her name escapes me, talked to Skenes and he said he is going to ask to pitch tomorrow. How many innings is the question.

Yep I 100% agree with you.

Pitch him till his arm falls off. We are talking about a championship on the line.
You do realize that he may not be physically capable of performing at the level you expect?
Suddenly the wave of DVs at daring suggesting we pull him an inning before he did against Wake in order to spare his arm to tomorrow makes sense.
Y’all just magically assume he will always perform like he has had a week rest just because y’all need him too.
He got the job done on Thursday but his numbers were empirically worse than against Tennessee. You have no idea how hard he had to push himself to do that.
And yet you frickers just assume he has more. “For nine innings if needed” to quote one poster.
Yea, he will pitch tomorrow. Yea, he will be an asset. But you got to stop daydreaming that he will single-handedly give a shutout performance all games.
The rest of the team, both pitching and bats will have to step up. I’ll be SHOCKED if he goes more than 5 innings as a best case scenario.

They don’t do it doing the ‘multiple 120 pitch outings Skenes has been doing the past few weeks.

Look I want to get as much as I can, but if his arm isn’t ready he won’t be any good.

You do this and you’ll start dealing with top recruits and parents having second thoughts about playing for JJ along with negative recruiting when battling over major prospects.
Posted on 6/25/23 at 6:57 pm to ruffleforeskin
Yeah, because that wouldn’t get used against us in recruiting at all.

Want to win a natty and play in the MLB?
Nah.. tell me about that pitcher that time in that game that got hurt.

Agree...pitch him only if HE is willing but on 3 days rest instead of 4/5 and another 6 home runs vs 6 hits like today will register a loss 6 out of 7 times, maybe more. Then have you jeopardized his him arm for naught?

The top 2 overall draft pick pitcher?
Players can do both of things for many schools not torching their arms (in this hypothetical scenario).

If he is your ace on an mlb roster and it’s game 7 of the World Series and let him go as long as he is good and can go…tomorrow is no different…he may not pitch for a month or longer after tomorrow. Let him start and go as long as he is good. Just like on of the commentators today mentioned….he may not pitch much more this year due to number of innings he has already pitched. Whoever drafts him may just get him a handful of starts on pitch count to get adjusted to pro level but basically save him until next year…..then u have Hurd ready after him followed by Coop and if u need more go from there

Skenes is a Clydesdale. Let’s ride that big horse to the championship
Posted on 6/25/23 at 7:25 pm to LSU316
Crews is probably at just as much risk if not more of injury playing every single day in the field, batting, and running the bases he could tear and ACL at any moment or any other number of injuries. There is always a risk with everything but team aces pitching on short rest has been a common occurrence for years, even on 3-4 days rest. I think if Skenes is wanting the ball you give him the ball, period. It just be a shame to make it to a winner take all game and not have our best player out there to give us our best chance. But you can’t force him as a coach if he says no but I think you do have to ask how he is feeling, ask him if it’s something he wants to do or interested in,and if he says yes then you send him out there to do his thing.
