Plus you get JJ to coach his hitting so yeah, should see improvement here closer to his freshman campaign if not better.

This is a great JJ pickup

The glove and speed are already there so all he has to do is get his hitting up which is obviously in JJs wheelhouse. We’ll see if we bring any other portal guys or which freshman make it to campus but Braswell is a good start

They have no idea. They just see he hit .250 and thinks he sucks.

I mean yeah, the majority of this board isn’t suiting down each weekend to watch South Carolina games. What else are we supposed to go off of? Over 2 years, he’s hit .271 with 3 HR. Hitting wise, he looks to be pretty comparable to JT, just without the power. Obviously he would be an upgrade defensively though.

Btw, I’m not saying it’s a bad pickup. I don’t know anything about him. But you can’t blame LSU fans for going off of a transfers most recent season, especially when they played in the SEC.

This has Nippolt vibes. I doubt Jay is done in mINF.

Did he visit LSU after super regionals?

No, he was watching the Super Regional and heard Jay Johnson say, “if you are a good player in the portal, this is the place to be.”

Figured he’d sign on the dotted line.

Is it a safe assumption Nippolt will be asked to look elsewhere?

I assumed it meant he hit 255 as a Fr, 372 as a So, and 353 this past year.

I just continued scrolling and becoming more and more mind blown with each post not understanding a basic batting line

We are losing both middle infielders, and our heir apparent at SS has turned into a really good pitcher. So I assume he will get 2 to go along with the incoming class

Most posters think anything below a 600 BA is trash...

What did Nippolt show you that says he's capable of hitting .250 in the SEC?

I have to say all the Opinions on here are empty, I trust JJ!

PS no-one said he was coming in as a starter, we have all seen the negative impact injuries can have.

Has an impressive bio.

Hit .447 with 16 RBI and had a 1.00 ERA with 41 strikeouts his senior season at Campbell

Was ranked No. 90 by Baseball America and No. 105 by MLB.com in the 2021 draft class

Ranked the No. 2 shortstop and No. 5 overall player in the state of Georgia by Perfect Game in the class of 2021

SEC All-Freshman Team (2022)
John Olerud Award Semifinalist (2022)

Started 54 games as a freshman, Played multiple infield positions, and also recorded multiple saves including one against Texas. Def intriguing, versatile, solid player.

ETA: This bio does not scream Ben Nippolt

Did Nippolt struggle fielding or am I unfairly only remembering the times he did.

I know what the stat line was about. But TBH, some fans probably question why are we taking a transfer who hit no better than that shown and inferring there must be some kind of misunderstanding?

We were expecting someone like Tanks.
