Even a Mexican coke has pure cane sugar in it plus only 4 other ingredients. How many does a coke have in our country?

You sweet, sweet, Summer child.

The government doesn’t work for the American people. The government works for those who pay them under the table and the corn lobby pays politicians a lot.

The State has no authority to ban something just because you saw thinner people in your travels. I mean, I lived in Japan and by comparison they make Europeans look huge. So maybe Europe should ban cheese and streudel and switch to sashimi and rice ?

How about “ Republicans “ and other free people just learn to use their freedom responsibly and quit trying to ban things other people enjoy and use responsibly. Or just ban everything and make us fill out permission slips to submit to some bureaucrat when we want to consume it. Can I please have steak and butter this year, sir? Stop proposing totalitarianism and enjoy freedom and the risk that comes with it ya big pussy.

I don’t support banning it, but as I’ve taken a deep dive into nutrition the past ten years and my libertarian ways, I also do not want it subsidized, this include the bullshite ethanol subsidies as well.

The market should dictate it, and to go along with health, the corn lobby needs to be smashed for the sake of the nations health.

Don’t get me started on soybeans…Believe it or not, Ag needs a major change and get off the government teet. It’s a hard prospect to face, but we have millions of acres to change.

Someone will need to expend a massive amount of political capital to remove the subsidies, which I don’t see happening in the next 30 years.

How this plays into Wickard v. Filburn I have no idea.

Don’t you touch my soy, Mr Libertarian Man ! How will I get my estrogen levels to sufficient Democrat male levels if you cut off my soy? What’s next, will you cut off funding for my Trans Dance Therapy Minor Grooming class at the local elementary school?

Exactly.

Oh, and the problem isn’t diet. It’s lack of exercise. Exercise is the single biggest health intervention there is in terms of overall benefit. People are lazy.

It’s not that he is advocating for Big Brother to tell HIM what he can and cannot do. He’s advocating for Big Brother to regulate everything and everyone else according to his whims and fancies.

Americans are overweight because of substances like high fructose
That is extraordinarily simplistic. The "obesity epidemic" is multifactorial. Diet quality and quantity has a role, as does exercise, work-life stress, daily environment, genetics, etc.

For example, something as simple as food access and habit can play a role. If one walks >4-5 blocks to 'catch' lunch or dinner, odds are much lower of overeating because they'd feel like sh*t on their post-meal walk. Americans rarely walk to a location. Europeans do it with frequency.

Why?

Because most European cities date to the middle ages or before when pedestrian access was paramount. Newer automobile-dependant/accessible cities/cultures in the Americas, Australia, and New Zealand are associated with higher percentages of obesity than their European counterparts.

Why does the government need to be involved? People need to make responsible choices on their own. If enough people reject high fructose corn syrup, the food industry will respond accordingly.

"Republicans" supporting these kind of ideas scares the hell out me. 3 words: FREEDOM TO CHOOSE!

It's up to me to be a wise consumer and read labels.

Now, if you want to ban Food Stamps from being able to purchase items with Corn Syrop, I'm all for that

Sure ban it.

As people buy a 44oz polar pop and a bag of chips, with some M&Ms to wash it all down

I've worked with Euros. They come to work with a briefcase and the only thing in it is a banana. We don't need to ban anything. I don't want diet nazis telling what we can eat.
