Our daughter teaches in Costa Rica and has lived there for a couple of years. We’ve been a few times. It’s very pretty. I like it there but probably wouldn’t move there. I would go to Italy. Nice people, food and still part of civilization.

Mallorca, Spain is my eventual destination. Look it up. Tons of expats there from UK, South Africa, Australia, etc. all disgruntled folks who left their crumbling country. It’s only a matter of time before Americans with resources to do such start to expatriate to other countries. We are importing low iq, uneducated, unskilled Illegal Immigrants at a ridiculous pace who will destroy this country.

Got it, pickpockets and whores. I've been there before, but the tourist areas (La Rambla) and the druggies shitting themselves on the beach are what I'm looking for a middle ground between.
Do you have experience with Valencia, Perpignan, or anywhere similar? Barca is obviously a tourist mecca, but it seems like there are hundreds of miles of charming towns that one could live in or visit that get you the vibe and benefits without some of the drawbacks. In Barca, you don't knock over a bank, you knock over a store with Jamon and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in product in ten minutes.
Ah, Patatas Bravas...

Nope. Just Barcelona. Went outside of town on a tour of the Codorniu cava winery though. One of the coolest things I've ever seen. They have 30 km of subterranean tunnels where they age the cava. They take you through it on little electric trains. When you reach an intersection, you can look both ways and not see the ends of the tunnels.

We already have a bank account and property in the Philippines. Finished up getting our daughter's Philippine passport a few months ago. I like it over there... like anywhere else, it has its plusses and minuses.

In EU, would only be interested in Portugal. Agree that the Portuguese language would be a challenge. Getting the right pace with ExPats that speak English might be important.

Strongly considering Japan except I'd have to unload enough guns and knives to retire on.
ETA: Also considering northern S. America and if I had to go to Europe... the whitest ones.

I'd rather have guns here than not somewhere else. but I've got some land that is set up for bugging out if SHTF.
I need to bring in some like minded baws though. not enough manpower to make it as is.

The ledge is like 15 minutes offshore there in places I’m told. Costa Rica is on my retirement list.

I'm assuming you've been stationed there to even consider it. But, Japan (at least Tokyo) has issues which can only be ameliorated with corporate funding of your schools, apartments, etc.
I'd completely move there, but I don't know if most Gaijin could. I lived there as a kid, and consideration of others (not talking on your f@#*@ phone on a bus from Narita, etc) is something a lot of westerners can't get, and they don't understand how important it is. If it fits with your personality (drink lots, show lots of respect, follow rules) it can be great. Has anyone that hasn't been to Japan seen a guy pass out sleeping on his laptop in a train station, and he wakes up with the same laptop still in his possession in the morning? Yeah, that's the busiest train station in Japan (Shinagawa.)
How about Korea, like Jeju, Seoul, Daejeon, etc.? They're looser socially, and as long as you don't associate with the military crew in Seoul, people will seemingly treat you normally. I had a dude "corner" me outside of Daejeon station and just want to talk to me for half an hour because he wanted to practice his English. And there was a three/four story Spiderman "model" stuck on the side of a hotel for weeks.

Way too many negatives re Russia, but did read that there are 20 million females between the ages of 20 - 30. And many many are gorgeous. Idaho is drop dead beautiful & has zero woke BS. Too, there are whole communities of retired LAPD so that says a lot. But it seems half of Calif. is moving there.

I'm living here for 18+ years. Your spouse can, but you can't. Can Foreigners Own Land in the Philippines? Proceed With Caution If You Want to Stay Safe.
