Hello travel board. Long time lurker that picks up tips on this board often.

Looking at a possible weekend trip to NO July 1-3. Can I get some Airbnb recommendations, tips, tricks, etc?

It will be 4 adults and 1 kid. Any areas to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Enjoy your trip to New Orleans. Be careful of your surroundings. Try not to park your car on the street. There is a lot of car windows broken.

New Orleans is tricky. There’s literally multiple areas where 1 block makes all the difference. It would be best if you picked a couple and told us their location so we can say yes or no.

Take your pick , I saw an ad for an apartment building on Tulane to be converted into STRS and the ad said that New Orleans is the most searched Airbnb city in the world.

This is true. You can walk down Canal and it's lit up with lots of people, then turn right and suddenly it's pitch black, you hear a bottle break in the distance, some yelling, etc.

Brought my family to NOLA in 2017 and haven't been back. Trashy/ghetto people all over the place and was a total dump everywhere we went.

I like that but not available 1-3 July. Plus 3 night minimum.
Thanks

Yeah this is kind of what I’m wondering about. Airbnbs with “private” drives would be nice. You hear all kinds of things about NO and I’m sure some are true but people visit all the time.

Keep in my that parking sucks in the French Quarter and it can be loud, especially on the street level.

Look at places between the river and St Charles Ave, closer to Magazine the better. Walkable area with a lot going on. You can easily Uber or take the streetcar downtown or into the FQ

There are more areas to avoid than desirable areas. Make sure you understand exactly where it is. Lots of listings that look good online that are in areas I would never stay in.

I'm sure the trip from Marksville to new Orleans was a little overwhelming .. Next time either do a little research or go to a smaller city .

Uh oh

As others have said Airbnbs in NOLA can be very tricky. One block makes a huge difference

OP - You should look into this music festival. City will be packed. A fair number of places will be closed. And it will likely be hot as hades.

If it were me, I’d look for another weekend or another locale. Not exaggerating at all.

A. I would never suggest going to New Orleans the first weekend of July for multiple reasons

B. I wouldn't suggest going the AirBnB route in New Orleans unless you are very familiar with the area

Essence Festival weekend... Avoid like the plague. There are multiple shootings and fights in the Quarter every year.
