I have not seen his name mentioned to start Friday (I know here goes another starter thread so I apologize) but IMO he is the best option.

You can not gamble and lose that game. Hurd has shoved recently and I understand the logic and fully believe he will ultimately be the guy but why not give Floyd the ball and just win. He has been extremely consistent recently and I have complete faith in him to get job done which is the only thing that matters. I fully trust Ty to GUARENTEE a win rather than a PROBABLE win with Thatcher. In this tournament, you have to be as sure a possible and that would be my plan of action. Still have Paul go game 2 and set your self up for Thatcher in game 3.

This would put Thatcher on over a weeks rest and hopefully they would have him throw to stay loose and ready. I would absolutely think we would have no issue against a team in their 4th game and would score enough runs to cover Hurd in the event of an off day. This route almost 100% secures us into the Supers IMO which again is only thing that matters.

Once again, I still think Hurd will be the choice just wish there was more talk of Ty getting the ball.

It's regionals, everyone's trying to win.

If LSU cannot beat Tulane on Friday no matter who's pitching then they don't deserve to win a championship no matter what.

Who's to say Floyd does better this weekend anyways?

Edit: LSU is going to need to score runs in bunches and get outs...it may not look pretty but you're trying to bridge the gap to Skenes...nothing more nothing less.

I'd rather Floyd in the first (hopefully only) regional final game, personally.

Hurd vs Tulane & Floyd vs SMHS/OSU is better than Floyd vs Tulane & Hurd vs SMHS/OSU.

Floyd has been your #2 all year, he goes against the better competition.

You absolutely can gamble as the 1 seed. It has never hurt LSU before. LSU is 15-0 as a 1 seed vs the 4 seed in the current regional format that started in 1999.

Hurd, Skenes then Floyd gives us the best chance to win 3 games and get out the regional that way

You throw Floyd game 1 and he pitches well you're putting a lot on Hurd game 3 agaisnt a much better opponent and probably pretty good pitcher to throw a good game otherwise we potentially go to a "We definitely dont want to see it" 4th game with our pitching depth.

Tulane's two best pitchers have ERA's of 5.14 & 5.44. Whomever we start, LSU waxes the floor with these guys.

There is an argument for Floyd against Tulane that I could listen to:

I think Floyd is a more proven commodity than Hurd. Less variance in his outings than Hurd’s.

If Floyd pitches Friday he could possibly be available for a few outs on Monday if needed. But also, if you look ahead fo the Super Regionals, you could draw the Friday-Sunday Super Regional dates. You might already have to pitch Skenes on one day short rest in game 1 of a Super (since he will throw the Saturday game of this regional) and if Floyd doesn’t pitch until Sunday, he could also be pitching on one day short rest in the Supers.

So it Floyd starts against Tulane, he would be on full rest next weekend for the Supers, and also could be a choice to pitch game 1 of a Super so that Skenes could get his full rest before his start.

Just a thought, I would not necessarily pitch Floyd on Friday, but there are a lot of factors to consider.

So, you think someone else vs. Tulane is more of a gamble than having to win one of two with someone else in the mound vs. the team that comes out of the losers bracket?

I disagree. I’m not confident in winning 1 of 2 against the 2nd best team with our staff behind Floyd.

Damn.

You really doubled down on this terrible take from the other thread.

We have to win 3 games this weekend. Do you want Hurd who has been more inconsistent, or Floyd on the mound against a better team trying to send us to the supers?

Answer me that.

I mean we all want the same outcome so I have my belief. It's okay to think different things. All my point boils down to is I have more faith to avoid catastrophe with Ty and simply haven't seen his name mentioned once. Very well could be because I'm an idiot (which is accurate) and no one in their right mind would start him but we will see.

Hurd's cumulative ERA is 6.41.

Also, I don't recall the exact metrics, but Texas A&M's pitching was pretty terrible going into the SEC tournament and they were incredible there.

I tend to agree that Floyd would be my choice for game 1 considering how he's been more consistent overall.

Also, I assume we get Dylan Carmouche from Tulane. 100 Ks to only 38 walks for him. And...he's a LHP. I would not be surprised one bit if we struggle to square him up, at least for a while.

You're riding with Hurd to get this game and then have the next two games with your two best starting pitchers. We're going to have to score runs and not go 3-20 with RISP to win the Regionals.

If you pitch Floyd Friday and Skenes Saturday you still have to win one more game. You are saying you’d rather pitch a lesser pitcher in the game you need to win to win the regional against a better opponent and pitcher. Catastrophe is not losing to Tulane game 1. it’s losing the regional. Thinking differently is one thing, you are out thinking a basic strategy that has been in place for a long time for a valid reason.

They are going to have win a game this weekend with someone other than Skenes or Floyd. Oregon St has a far superior offense to Tulane, their options for 4th starter are not much different from Tulane’s “ace”, and their bullpen is much better. Getting a win behind Hurd is far more likely against Tulane than against Oregon St. That’s why Hurd is the logical choice.
