The options are overwhelming- curious if anyone here bought one recently that is worth a recommendation.

I’m not looking to cheap out on it.

I feel like I need TulaneLSU to rank the mattresses him and mother have cycled through over the years.

It really is a personal preference, you can ask 20 people and get 20 different answers to this question.

Buy the firmest flip-able mattress you can find, then invest in a topper because your comfort needs will change over time.

This. Made the mistake of asking for recs on FB and got a different brand from almost every person. Purple mattress came up more than once along with a local manufacturer. Probably go with the local maker.

We just bought Nectar mattresses for the guest bedrooms. They are great a now we’re thinking of replacing the master bedroom mattress.

Nest has inserts with different firmness. If you don’t like the one you order they will ship you new ones. We got the softest one at first and couldn’t move on it, asked for the mid level and they sent them at no cost. Used the old ones to make dog beds.

We went though a massive process the last 18 months. 9 mattresses in total exchanged out. All would hurt us in 3 week or less. We need a true firm (8+ out of 10 firmness) bed to sleep comfortably.

We landed on the Plank bed from Brooklyn beds and it's been great.

We looked recently I liked the hybrid medium firm tempurpedic or whatever it is. Seems hard at first but it’s what I’ll be going with because it’s comfortable and cool.

Dealing with the salesperson / store is the problem. Also the 2 month wait, I don’t get that.
