I love God and all of that but sometimes I just want to sleep in, go to a breakfast and just relax on a Sunday morning instead of having to do all of the things that you have to do to get ready to go watch a 1 hour rehearsed show.

The Sabbath day is not about being a slave to a man made routine in a church building. It’s been perverted and misunderstood and diluted into “go to church building against your will and make it through service.” But that’s not what it’s supposed to be. Go read Matthew Chapter 12 for a good start on this.

The sabbath day is about taking one day a week to separate yourself from work and stress and distractions and worldly nonsense and truly take a few moments to thank God for what you have, worship and praise him, and relax.
Exodus 20:8-11

If your church doesn’t instill feelings of happiness and joy and community and faith deep within you every time you’re there to worship in earnest then you need to first analyze yourself and make sure you are truly making an effort to connect to God and second analyze your church and see if it where you need to be. Matthew 6:5-15

I’m sure Christ wanted to just hang with some buddies and chillax but instead he loves you so much he was brutally tortured and murdered so that you could be saved. You too must put aside your worldly desires and follow him. Mark 8:31-38

You want to get the most out of church.
If you’re not feeling reconnected to God after each worship service, try a different church.

I used to be in church Sunday mornings and evenings, and Wednesday evenings. Toss in choir practice and teaching children’s church. I don’t go anymore. It was home to me and never thought I’d not go. But our old pastor retired and I didn’t care for the new one and its direction. Churches today seem to forget about tradition and scripture and focus on drawing in the “young” with modern music that will never replace hymns. Seems it’s God’s job to bring them in, churches have lost focus.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Sunday is a day of rest. Says nothing about church

As a Christian you are supposed to worship God every day not just Sunday. That can be done outside of church. Church is for fellowship, listening and understanding Gods Word, charity, mission work. It’s a great thing but not necessary to be a good Christian. A lot of shitty people go to church regularly but don’t follow its teachings outside of that building

We’re all human. Spiritual dryness can happen. Every part of a Catholic mass is strictly from the Bible.

I read all the Sunday readings during the week before Sunday mass in my Every Sacred Sunday journal. It allows me to really understand the message and to really understand the Bible.

I also take occasional notes during Father’s homily because he is amazing and shares his human experiences and struggles with us. He said if you can only give 40% one day because of depression/anxiety/exhaustion that’s your 100% and it’s ok.

This is the problem. You’ve been conditioned to feel bad for missing.

I understand that feeling. Honestly, I enjoy attending church in large part due to the community aspect. I have some phenomenal relationships in the church that have really helped shape my life.

As far as the money gripe goes, I’ve always been confused by the annoyance of that. People are perfectly fine with consuming from the church but get so touchy when the church asks for funding. I know quite a few conservative people who bash folks who take welfare on the basis of “they just feel entitled and have no problem letting others foot the bill” but do the same thing when it comes to church. You’re fine with the lights and AC staying on. You’re fine with the various resources the church offers. You’re fine with your kids having a safe and secure space on Sundays. You’re fine with the messages being filmed and broadcasted so you can consume them online at your convenience.

But folks don’t wanna give a dime to pay for any of that. It’s interesting. I understand the black eyes the church has gotten by televangelists asking for private jet money but if you feel like your church leadership is irresponsible with money, I’d go to a different church.

Pretty much since I discovered Mid South Wrestling on WBRZ back in 1984.

Then my lack of desire just kept on…

I don't go as much as I should or need too. Missing today because I have cattle in calving pens now calving and I see feet sticking out of one. Plan on going more once calving season is over.

I grew up that way. Every single Sunday. Maybe missed 5-10 times my entire childhood. Don’t go near as much now. It’s hard to get back into it.

Yes. This morning for instance. I am smart enough to fear God, yet I sin. I am active in our Church, but not as I should be. No vote is coming to save us, Jesus is. I am a sinner who does not deserve the love of my God.
