If you're setting a budget, it really makes a lot of sense. You can buy some cool adders with what the price of the V8 is. The V6's today don't totally suck either. They make more power than the last gen V8's did. If you're looking for bang-for-buck, the V6 offerings are tough to beat. If I didn't need a V8 I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Drove Fords all my life and have nothing bad to say about them. Bought a new 2020 Chevy 1500 Silverado RST and I love it. Its more plush than my Fords and so far, I like it better. Its getting about 17 mpg driving around and 20 on the highway.
Im pulling a 25foot bay boat with it and I think its a little light for it. Though I dont tow far, I think I would be better with a 2500. I may be switching soon. If I do, I will go with the same truck but a 3/4 ton
Ive got the 5.3 and the 8 speed transmission. Plenty of power. Just not heavy enough for my big boat

A 2012 Tundra with the 5.7 is unstoppable, 200K on one is akin to 20k on a Ford or Chevy. I read a lot of people claiming that the 2018 Tundra is an unstoppable year too.

If anyone answers something other than 6.2L 10sp it’s because they’ve never really driven a 6.2/10sp

3.5 Turbo, for best acceleration and towing, especially tuned. Reliable as long as you aren’t a sissy and change the oil on time with 5W40 T6 Rotella and fix the coolant and oil leaks. Easily a 300k mile engine if maintained.
It’s the best selling half ton pickup, and the 3.5 Ecoboost is the best selling (and most reliable, even than the 5.0) motor. Go ahead and search the internet comparing the reliability of the 3.5 vs 5.0.
It’ll beat the 5.0, the hemi, and the 6.2 Chevy in a drag and blow the doors off the sluggish 5.3 Chevy and 5.7 Toyota.
After a good tune on a 3.5 you’ll be running 12s and searching the internet for traction bars.

The Dealer group that I work for sells new Chevy, GMC, Ram, Ford, & Toyota, and my position allows me to drive a new demo. I typically choose either Sierra AT4 or Silverado TrailBoss equipped with 6.2L V8. 20+ mpg is my average, has plenty power to pull my Skeeter ZX225, or utility trailer w/SxS…

I enjoy efficiency and better interiors.
Get a f-150 platinum with the 2.7 twin turbo. Interior is beautiful and the engine gets good mileage. They won't make it 1/3 as long as the 5.7 tundras but it doesn't sound like you'll need it for work or anything.

What color you have?
It’s the Platinum model white. It’s not the same as on an SR5, there is a little bit of pearlescent to it

Yes, because everyone loves to replace their transmission around 50k miles.

I’ve had my Tundra for a year now.
It’s a ‘22 Platinum.
The power in the truck is just as good as my old Tundra (2011) and Sequoia (2012).
Longevity is yet to be seen but the truck has been great so far.
had toyota service guy (think service manager) in my office Thursday. I asked about the V6 turbo in Tundras. Was surprised he said don't get it. Said they've had a fair amount of complete engine failures. Think that's viewed compared to old V8 where they didn't see any, so 1 might look like a lot. Fully aware this is second hand info on the internet

No it wouldn't.
It's OK to want a bigger truck, but don't blame it on the boat. Any 1/2 ton V8 today is going to pull a bay boat just fine.

If I was buying new right now it would be between a Ram with the 5.7, Titan XD with the 5.6, F150 with the 5.0 and a GM with the 3.0.

Titan with 5.6
F150 with 5.0
Dodge with 5.7
Assuming by best you mean reliable.
The tundra was king. But no more 5.7
The dodge valvetrain is probably the most reliable these days. I just can't trust chrysler electronics.

I’ve got an 2018 and it’s a beast. Not one lick of trouble and I’m at 140,000.

No offense to you, I just hate when people say this.
Changed hoses and belts at 200k.
Redline every single gear every single day.
