Why that oil? Why not the Motorcraft 5w30 per the manual?

As far as leaks, these pieces of shite are nothing but plastic quick connect fittings so it’s just a matter of time.

I would be hesitant to use the 5w40 rotella in the newer turbo's. The oil is amazing, but the tiny amount of oil it burns is going to be murder on the cats.

I would assume a 0w40 mobil1 would work well without the risk of the zinc on the cats.

Mobil1 definitely seems to help the longevity of poorly made timing chain tensioners.

On my own engine, I'm changing the oil every 10k and changing the filter every 20k.

I've had 3 5.3 Sierras (currently '20 AT4) and have no issues with any of them.

3.0 Duramax, but I guess you’re not interested in 27-28 mpg.

Ever run the numbers on cost per mile between a diesel and a gas burner?

Diesel offers no advantage in MPGs when you look at it that way.

What’s the best truck for my scenario? I commute about 110 miles per day, plus a couple trips a year so I’m putting about 36k miles a year on it. With rising gas prices i need something that gets around 30+ mpg and can pull a boat and a 35hp tractor and last to 300k miles.

Well, the fuel mileage is certainly better.

Total cost of ownership is a wash. The diesels will get better fuel mileage, have longer range, longer service intervals, generally last longer. Fuel costs more and service costs more. Sell price is higher, resell price is higher.

Done this many times with a whole fleet of service trucks. It's a wash.

I've had multiple Ram, Silverado, and F150's over the past few years and they are all great.

2018 Sierra SLT with 5.3
2019 Silverado LTZ with 6.2
2020 Ram Limited with 5.7
2021 Ram Longhorn with 5.7
2022 Tremor with 3.5
2022 King Ranch with 3.5
2022 Raptor with 3.5

Of all these trucks I prefer the 3.5 as it is the quickest and most fun to drive. The 6.2 is also fantastic and a very fast and linear motor. The 5.7 has plenty of power for normal use but lags behind the others in acceleration and highway passing. The performance tuned 3.5 in the Raptor is a rocket ship for a pickup and a great powerplant

Your take is not typical for most vehicle owners.

You realize why no one really cares about your take right?

I have a company car allowance and had a side hustle during covid flipping trucks. Figured this would be a valuable opinion as I have significant experience with all the big 3 manufacturers

It is some value but the vast majority of people are not trading out cars that often and most vehicles are reliable for the first 50k miles or so.

Creature comforts, handling etc. though I would definitely say you can speak to. I was taking the discussion was more geared towards reliability.

That may be the case. However its been my experience that a 5 year old Tundra 5.7 with 100k+ is usually worth at least 5 to 10k more than a similar equipped F150 with the 3.5.

We need a poll-post about all trucks. Put a check mark by each one. I mean, let’s settle this shite in a different thread and call it a damn day…..until next week.

For light hauling;

Ford
2.7
3.3
3.5
5.0

Chevy
2.5
3.6
Dodge etc

Toyota etc
Nissan etc

Heavy Hauling:

Ford
2.7
3.3
3.5
5.0

Chevy
2.5
3.6
Dodge etc

Toyota etc
Nissan etc

Best diesel truck:

Ford
Chevy
Dodge
Nissan

Criteria:
Dependability
Ability on road
Ability off road
Cost to repair.
