Evidently the Egyptians are not amused

Even retired Egyptian Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass, the most famous archeologist in the world, has chimed in

quote:

An Egyptian lawyer, Mahmoud al-Semary, has taken legal action against streaming giant Netflix, over the portrayal of Cleopatra a Black woman in a new documentary. Netflix cast bi-racial British Actress Adele James to play Cleopatra.

Al-Semary has filed a lawsuit with a public prosecutor, seeking to ban Netflix in Egypt, alleging that the documentary distorted the country’s history in favor of promoting Afrocentrism.

“Most of what Netflix platform displays do not conform to Islamic and societal values and principles, especially Egyptian ones.”

In addition to al-Semary’s complaint, former Egyptian Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass has criticized the casting decisions made for the documentary. Hawass stated publicly that the depiction of Cleopatra “is completely fake” adding that “Cleopatra was Greek, meaning that she was blonde, not Black.”

Hawass has accused Netflix of “trying to provoke confusion by spreading false and deceptive facts that the origin of the Egyptian civilization is black.”

Cleopatra was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, which was of Greek origin and ruled Egypt from 305 BC to 30 BC. Although there is some debate among scholars about the specific ethnicity of Cleopatra and other members of the Ptolemaic dynasty, it is generally accepted that they were of Greek and Macedonian descent.

Zahi Hawass has been dealing with these Afrocentrist people for years. I think he gets perturbed that it is even a thing. I think he is sick of U.S. race relations bleeding over to Egypt.

irony of this "documentary" is that it educated a lot of people on social media about Cleopatra being a Macedonian ruling over Egypt.

I think the Hellenistic period should be basic history in schools.

Not that I ever want to side with Netflix, but why are they required to portray historical figures as racially accurate?
I certainly understand that the casting director would prefer to be accurate, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

I'm fine with it except it's labeled as a Documentary, as in, real.

So in that case, I'd like to cast Leonardo DiCaprio as MLK in a new Documentary called "shite we all can make up!".

Meanwhile, over on the M\TV Board... Jay Are thinks the problem is with the viewer and Froman seems to be fine with re-writing history.

I can't say I care all that much about the issue at hand, but I'm all for any foreign country or entity to sue, outlaw, or kick in the shins any of these loathsome woke American corporations peddling their usual pro-grieveance, pro-groomer, pro-equity degeneracies.

mostly because some of the queens came from the Seleucid Empire in Persia, but the Seleucids were also Greek, with some of their queens possibly being native Persian or from what is now Turkmenistan. So if there was any non Greek DNA in Cleopatra it was extremely minimal, and none of the sources were black Africans. Hell, if she were half native Egyptian she still wouldn't have been black African since the Egyptians also where not black, they would have largely resembled the Berbers and people who currently inhabit North Africa
