I’ll typically just keep my shoes on unless I’ll be inside for a while or they’re dirty. Went to a friends place where they requested we take our shoes off while inside. I proceeded to step in water spilled on the floor and had to go the evening with a wet sock…. Why?

I take them off and leave them by the door. I don’t want all the nastiness from the public ground tracked in the house but that’s just me. Also it’s easy to just slip them on when I’m leaving the house.

Either way works, but pants always have to come off. It’s a safety issue.

When I walk in the door my work clothes come off and the comfortable clothes go on. The shoes never make it back on my feet unless I leave the house.

Off. None of us wear shoes in the house. But we don’t ask our guests to take theirs off.

Americans like to look down on other customs or countries but two things I will never understand:
- shoes in the house
- dogs that sleep in the bed

Both are disgusting.

ETA: and yes I have a dog

We generally take our shoes off at the front door when it’s just family here. But we never tell company to take off shoes.

Generally off, unless I’m turning back around to head back out within a few minutes. Not so much worried about a mess but it’s more comfortable if hopping on the couch or such.

Shoes off at the side door. My wife is a clean freak.

The dog is the only thing that is allowed inside and outside without catching hell about dirt

People who do this are weird - absent some really specific ethnic stricture.
