We did the shoes off for up to about 15 years after moving in to the current house back in ‘92. After the newness of the house wore off, so to speak, it was clean shoes stayed on, dirty shoes taken off.

Shoes off at the door. No exceptions. Think of all the nasty places you walk on a daily basis especially public restrooms and ask yourself why the hell you would want to track that into your home.

So like, you take them off and carry them to your bedroom?

No, I put them beside the door. Do you carry your shoes to your bedroom?

Went to a friends place where they requested we take our shoes off while inside.

I would say thanks but no thanks and leave

And this is one of many reasons why. Dog piss is another though truth be told if I know you keep a dog in your house I'm not coming over anyway because your whole house will smell dog. I'm good.

About the only time either of us are just barefoot is in the shower or bed.

Same. We wear house shoes all the time pretty much.

While Fred Rogers preferred shoes on, I'm strictly a no shoe guy

Off, but I'm not the type that insists on it or takes them off at the door. I just walk to my closet when I get home and walk around barefoot or in a pair of oofos that stay inside.

I hate going to people's houses and they make me take off my shoes.

Me too. My wife's grandparents were like that. We'd generally go over for get togethers so we'd be in and out of the house all day. Nothing like taking off your shoes 17 times in 4 hours. I hated it.

Your friends have poor manners. The no-shoes rule is fine, but they should have alerted you in advance so that you could make plans, or if they were truly hospitable, provide some nice plush, disposable slippers for you to wear.

Bull. Why would I need to tell someone in advance. Are your feet dirty? Clean your dirty feet! Didn’t clip your nails? Gross. There’s no reason other than some foot disfigurement that I need to tell you in advance.

Spilled water on the floor? Who the frick doesn’t clean their messes and would allow someone to step on spilled water? Get wet socks and you take your socks off. Nbd. Or I can give you some of my clean ones to borrow.

I’ve lived my entire life doing this and never had a problem. And most people politely notice that we have shoes off and do it themselves or ask. I only have to politely ask a certain few…and they are generally contractors.
