Because they have lost 2000 tanks

Because the way the war in Ukraine is now being strategized, there is no “Russian invasion offensive.” They are shelling the Ukrainian positions with artillery (cheap ordinance) until they pound them into oblivion. Using cruise and mid range missiles to surgically hit strategic targets deep in Ukrainian territory.

Then, they are supplying the Russian backed separatist forces DPR and LPR with the old Soviet era tanks, to push the front lines when moving into a town or city.

Backmut recently and Mariupol last year are examples. The initial contact Ukrainian forces are having in eastern Ukraine are not Russian military units. They are the separatist that have been fighting for 8-10 years for the Donbas.

Been this way since the withdrawal from the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions last year. Why would you roll your most modern tanks into a shooting range with thousands of anti tank missiles supplied by the US? You wouldn’t.

Similarly, why would you fly your most modern aircraft in an airspace that has been give modern air defense systems from the US. And actually, not knowing if more sophisticated SAM’s are active around the capitol of Kyiv.

Answer is? You don’t fly your newest helicopters and newest jets. Because you can hit anywhere in Ukraine with mid range and cruise missiles fired from outside of Ukrainian territory.

Russia has pulled back and utilized artillery to limit casualties and risk exposure, and have loaded the separatist up with guns, ammo, and old shotty tanks to roll in cities with, knowing they will be obliterated.

Putin has shifted to the long game, now that Biden has dug himself into the military aid shipment cycle every 3 weeks. Once aid stops, they have the newly called up invasion force ready to go. If the aid keeps flowing, Putin will hold onto territory in the east until Ukraine concedes the territorial loss.

The American and European news media is so far off from reality of what’s happening in Ukraine, it’s a travesty.

One would think we'd send our stockpile of 70yr old military equipment over for Ukraine to use, before sending them shite that is 40 years old or newer.

I seriously don’t think you know what a Nazi is or means.

Please enlighten us on what is Nazi about the Ukraine, other than Putin claiming they are to attempt to have the Russian people accept their massive casualties, high economic cost of the war, and the war crimes being committed by their nation on Ukrainian civilians in their name.

So, the T-55s will be target practice for the Bardleys.

Unless you think that's the strategy, get the Ukrainians to use up all their anti-tank ammo on dated vehicles.

Then it's a brilliant plan.

So we can stop sending Ukraine money/weapons. Right?

Nope.

Because the minute we do Russia rolls. I don't know if you have figured out our government's position yet, but here's a little spoiler for you: we are going to continue to send money to Ukraine until at least January 2025 or until the war is over.

Until you realize NATO will continue to restock their supply of ATG ammunition indefinitely.

Yep. Far easier to crank out ammo than an operable battle ready tank. With crew.

I read some stuff about Russian tanks during WWII. The average battle usage was 1.5 fights per tank. Some were destroyed by German attacks. But many just stopped running.
The Russian instructions to crew: 'If your tank stops running, abandon it and return to base. We'll get you a new one.'

Seems like a cheap way to get Ukraine to waste more ammo.

So you take the time to un-mothball them, load ammo, take up valuable rail transport, load in four sacrificial Ivans, just to absorb one round of western munitions?

Meanwhile 4 men are going to experience massive mechanical breakdowns, old ammunition misfires, in a tank that’s hopelessly blind, outgunned, and that they know nothing about. Hard to see them accomplishing anything before they fill 4 body bags.

Killing a crew, with four furious families morning sons, husbands, and fathers is NO WAY TO WIN A WAR!

It’s the exact way to loose a war.

Yep.

Because either of those dates is when the laundromat is closed for business.

I doubt many of them will run much less be combat ready.

Do they have ammo/shells for 70 year old tanks?
