It's a very good idea by Russia. They will still advance on their objectives, and they'll force Ukraine to use more and more ammunition, which Ukraine/US/NATO lack the ability to replace in a timely manner.

Actually, not a bad tactic, if your intent is to have the enemy waist their anti-tank weapons on tank fodder. (even though the Russians don't seem to care about how much human fodder they waist)

Those old tanks can be penetrated by 50BMG so there isn't much incentive for the crews to remain inside those old coffins.
In addition, unless these units were regularly maintained and exercised they will experience bearing failure as well as engine cylinder failure from corrosion due to lack of lubrication. The rubber bogie wheels on the tracks will have developed flat spots and will rapidly de-laminate and fall apart. Ukraine will have been supplied with more scrap metal to eventually convert into structural steel to rebuild their cities and infrastructure.
