Because they have lost 2000 tanks and need any mobile firepower they can get their hands on, and the super old tanks don't require precision bearings and foreign restricted electronics to get operational.

Who here is a historian of Ukrainian history and ethnic groups? The history of the Crimean peninsula alone is enough to make me back off from claiming to know much about what the people of Ukraine and its various regions want, other than to not be pawns in the power struggles of the elite.
