A Chicago woman’s property is being overtaken by squatters, she says she is not able to kick out.
Darthula Young received an alarming phone call from a neighbor that there was a shooting outside her home and when she rushed to the scene, she found her locks had been changed and a bullet had pierced the window.
The residence that she inherited from her late mother was being occupied by a well-known local ex-convict, Takito Murray, and there was nothing Young could do about it. Under Chicago eviction laws, it could take eight months to kick squatters out.
"The only option I have is going through the legal process," Young told "Jesse Watters Primetime" on Tuesday. "As you talked about squatters’ rights, I've been doing my research and in the state of Illinois...anything that has to do with the squatter, comes under tenants' rights and tenants' rights is very different from squatters' rights."
Young gave the Murray a five-day notice, went to court three times and the saga is still not resolved. He has racked up a $1,300 water bill in the meantime.

Violence often does, in fact, solve problems.

Hmm. Owner seems like a white supremacist.

If you turn the water and the power off he’s not going to be accumulating any bills. Plus it’s going to be much less attractive to stay.

I don’t understand how it’s not simply trespassing and just arrest his arse

How can someone move in a home and not feel bothered by the constant letters on the door from the sheriff? It is invasion, who died and made squatters rights?
I don't quite understand. Why can't the police just knock on the door and say, show a deed/mortgage note or GTFO?
Is Murray's water still on? Don't tell me the home owner has to pay it.

I’ll never understand why squatters laws are written to benefit the squatter so much
Why can’t police remove the squatter ?

Because liberal shithole cities have laws written by rich entitled white women who operate solely on emotion.
Poor poor squatters.

I know the price of ammo has gone up, but it's still cheaper than that...

that was my first thought as well, but they made new laws so utilities cannot turn off water and power because landlords are not paying the bills.
the utilities services are mandated to stay on, no matter what, and they just keep adding up charges and the landlords have to pay it, so not paying the bill is not a way to get around landlords not being able to turn off power and water to get squatters out.
liberals will create a thousand new laws to give criminals all the rights and citizens have none at all.
what they could do, if they were smart, is hire thugs to come in and put a beat down on anyone living there and drag all their shite out into the street and threaten to kill them if they dont leave. use criminal thugs to get rid of criminal thugs is the only option left for landlords

This type of shite pisses me off… they could purposefully not pay the bill and continue to have power … meanwhile my check gets lost in the mail to pay my electric bill.. I get a notice that my power is getting cut off ONE DAY after the pay by date.

Imagine a government that wants to favor renters against landlords and makes it so favorable to renters that it takes months to years to physically evict, landlords must provide all utilities regardless of payment status, etc. Those evil greedy landlords need to be kept in their place and not allowed to do anything that puts those renters out on the street.
It’s just a small hop to extending those protections to “squatters”.

Because you have a justice department that sympathies with the underclass. So whenever they can stick it to hard working people with money, they do.
