"Chinese leader Xi Jinping plans to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the first time since the start of the Ukraine war, likely after he visits Moscow next week to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to people familiar with the matter," WSJ reports Monday.

"The meetings with Messrs. Putin and Zelensky, the latter of which is expected to take place virtually, reflect Beijing’s effort to play a more active role in mediating an end to the war in Ukraine, some of the people said."

All of this suggests that Beijing's role as an influential mediator, at a moment Washington has remained resistant to seriously pursuing peace in Ukraine, is gaining traction in both Moscow and Kiev.

DC war mongers and Biden would be devastated and small if Xi brings peace.

No one should have a problem with this. Peace is peace.

Trying to prevent countries we don't like from participating in consensual foreign policy is such a bad strategy that America seems stuck in.

This could be significant. China trying to replace the US as the world's mediators and deal makers.

Let me guess...Chyna will get credit for negotiating peace deal, and get full access to Ukrainian natural resources while not giving Ukraine a dime and we'll get nothing at all. Sound about right??

based on current conditions (macro demands, sure there are some smaller demands) i would assume Russia wants to keep what they captured and keep Ukraine out of EU/NATO, whereas Ukraine wants at least return to 2022 but likely back to 2014

losses vs wins on the battlefield will push one or both sides to come off of their current positions

china or not, i think both sides are still far apart from a "peace"

Didn’t we install Zelensky? Why would anything believe he is acting without taking US directives?

I have no problem with the Chinese taking this role, other than it just highlights how much the Biden foreign policy strategy has so much of a “monkey fricking a football” vibe to it.

Ukraine ain’t getting Crimea back. They need to purge that from their minds.
Best solution is give up Crimea, let Donbas become self-governing, and refuse NATO membership. In return, Russia leaves and guarantees safe access to the Black Sea.
This is likely what was in place before the clowns in Washington veto’d it.

Xi has told Biden and Blinken to stand down. Xi will handle the geopolitical skirmishes and work favorable trade agreements to aid China's final ascent to global dominance.....Xi is not only a top player on the world economic stage he is now the chief diplomat for world peace.

This ^^^ use to be America's role.

When you think back to 2021 it is pretty telling the USA/EU/NATO did not bother to enter into any serious discussions with Russia to de-escalate the tensions between Russia and Ukraine.....hmmm.

This is another example that the world has more respect for Xi than they do for Biden. As do I

Sounds right. Zelensky and Putin will come to a peace agreement via Xi, they will split up the territory per the peace agreement, China will send in peace keeping forces and Xi will negotiate trade deal with the new Ukraine and the new Russia to buy/extract resources.
