James Mangold Admits He’s Maligning Indiana Jones’ Character Says Audiences Will “Have To Readjust And Retool Their Brains For This Guy”
-Bounding Into Comics

He’s an established iconic character who fans have watched for decades. From Young Indy to The Last Crusade (Crystal Skull for you weirdos) we know Indiana Jones. Frankly, he belongs in a museum. Or retirement home. This has Taika “I’ll ruin your mythos in a minute baby) feels.

Just fing stop with this already!

Saw a video on this yesterday. Looks like a complete mess. They've reshot the ending multiple times - likely test audiences are hating it. Looks like it's a garbage flick.

Also, James Bond will take a 2-year break and is being 're-imagined.' Re-imagined usually means crapping on the existing character as fans know and love and then lecturing the fans and describing them as "toxic" when they complain.

I would have never thought making an action movie starring an 80 year old would be problematic.

“Re-imagined” is just saying “we have what would be a new idea but the studio is so scared to take any kind of risk that we are going to attach it to this existing IP - whether it fits or not - so we can guarantee a profit even if it tarnishes the reputation of the original IP and all directors and cast involved”

I'm not sure they completely nuke this character. They're running low on cash cows.

You'll watch your childhood heroes be emasculated and you'll love it, you peasant.

It’s best to skip all of it, from the movie itself to the reviews.

Crystal Skull… I’ve tried to forget it and stay in the first 3 Indy movies.

Indiana Jones:

White male, masculine, competent and courageous and unambiguously heterosexual.

The consistent "re's" these new era Hollywood stooges constantly use mean removing or diminishing all of the above in deference to a preferred minority protagonist. It's also a middle finger to the more traditional viewer. It will bomb, but they know that. That's not the point, or they wouldn't have cucked Skywalker, Bond, Obi Wan, Daredevil, Thor, He-Man, etc., etc., etc.

just don't watch it. I am sure you have a fulfilling enough life that you can find other things to do with your time.

I won't. Thanks for the positive reinforcement.

Yep. Like staring at the wall and watching paint dry.

Multiple reasons:

1- Hollywood's lazy and it's easier, they think, to dredge up an old IP and wring the blood from it than create anything new. New is hard...sequels, prequels, reimaginings, etc are easier.

2- Activism. This is easier when you shoehorn it into already established IPs. If you want your message to get out, it's better to cram it into the Trojan Horse of an IP people love.

What's worse is this ruins these franchises for people that grew up with them as kids, and it denies younger generations new heroes of their own because all they ever get is warmed over Gen X stories. Everyone loses.

As if I'd watch this trash fire.

But by all means, you go stand in line for this gem.

Damn shame. My all time favorite movie. Now it will be too woke to watch.
