How did Tesla solve the towing range problem their new upcoming semi truck?

With all the bad rap EV towing gets, it got me thinking, how did Tesla solve the towing problem in their semi trucks? Apparently it can go 500 miles while towing 82,000 lbs. Elon thinks Tesla semi trucks will be an industry game changer. What is Tesla doing different on their semis?

Well, 62k of the 82k lbs that is being towed is the weight of the extra batteries needed to tow the 20klbs of other cargo.

They didn't solve the problem. The trucks are heavy AF to tow that much payload that far.

Why can't a manufacturer make a decent-looking electric vehicle that doesn't look futuristic?

Note this is not the figure for towing it is gross vehicle weight which is the max for an EV semi on the road EVs are allowed a little more weight than an ICE semi.
The key number that has not been released but lots of speculation on is the weight of the tractor itself which could significantly impact the max tare weight of the cargo. That being said around 90% of semi-loads cube out before they are art or over weight.
The real world tests will begin when Pepsi starts utilizing them BUT they plan long trips (up to 400m IIRC) with chips (light loads) but they said they are limiting beverage deliveries to much shorter ranges.

A lot of it has to do with the fact design is primarily dictated by the wind tunnel. Function over form. If/when range and charge time issues have been eliminated the clay model designers will have more freedom.

I hear they weigh in at 10,000 Lbs more than traditional trucks due to the size batteries they are having to put in them. Not sure if this is accurate info

Oh lord no. It can go 500 miles GROSSING 82k. That's combined weight of cargo, truck, trailer, etc.
Towing 82k it can probably go more like 50 miles.
OTR trucking, pushing barges upriver, basically any kind of sustained hard work is NOT what we should be doing with electric vehicles. We should be eliminating the ICE commuter vehicle with them. I hate how we try to misapply the shite out of the "new thing"
