I was upset about it, cuz I figured Howard would beat him out and all that would do would give him an extra year to play at North Carolina State or whatever the frick, which wouldn't help LSU any.

Here's someone admitting their ignorance. Respect to you and Refreshing!

Its amazing to me how many people get in here and post about things they dont understand, so matter of factly.

There was a guy in here 1 day, who said he could quit his blue collar job and take over the head coaching duties at LSU,seamlessly.

Kelly gets paid 95 million dollars from LSU to make all the personnel decisions and a whole bunch of other duties at a very high success rate. He's a man on a mission. He's ALL IN at LSU and understands the consequences to his legacy if he cant get it done.

Why do sheep think they can and would do it differently, with more success?????
Next time just tell the heart surgeon to retire, u got this.

If we have a coach with a brain he’s already spoken to Nuss and was assured that he’s here to stay And will not transfer. That’s why Howard is leaving. He doesn’t want to be a backup for 3 more years.
Burning the redshirt for a crap bowl game was always idiotic and the irony is that’s the reason he will stay at LSU instead of needing to start in somewhere in 2023

I never said what he will do. I simply pointed out that he has 3 to play 3. Do I personally believe he would maximize his NFL potential by staying all 5? Yes I do. Dad is an NFL. Coach, he’s not leaving for money.

I'm more mad at the NCAA for not allowing him to be given a pass to play in the bowl game without losing eligibility.

Nuss isn't staying at LSU b/c he sat our the bowl game.
He's staying b/c he sees good PT next year and anticipates he is so far ahead of Howard he starts thereafter.
He is looking forward, not backward and its all about PT. If anything, saving his RS last year gives him more options to transfer.

If he's good, he'll bolt for the NFL before then and if he isn't and gets beat out by someone coming in, he'll high tail it through the portal. No way that guy sticks around for 5 years.

We've had a lot of "good" QBs. You know how many who weren't older ex-baseball players have left LSU with eligibility left? One. I'm going to go with odds and say Nuss does not leave early for the NFL.

There are other considerations keeping Nuss here:
He sees a talent filled WR room and an incredible, young OL.
He plays a good deal next year, starts for two.

This wouldn't be set in stone. He's almost certainly going to be a backup for one more year, but there's no reason to believe he wouldn't be involved in an open competition with Nuss and Collins heading into spring in 2024.

If he thinks he's going to be a backup for three more years if he stays at LSU, they he's telling you he know's he's not as good as Nuss and still won't be as good as him this time next year.

Personally, I think he's transferring because he's not as good as he thought he was, is shrinking from the competition and rather than humble himself and put in work he's going to make excuses and transfer.

no rational person was mad at Nuss for saving his redshirt year by skipping that trash bowl last year, with half our roster missing and a ghost coaching staff.

I was frustrated at the time but not really mad, per se.

Also, I did not find out until this year that Brad Davis ended up making that decision for Nuss thinking that it was not a good idea to burn his redshirt for a meaningless game. I know that could just be a coach covering for a player but I will choose to believe it. I am glad that Nuss stayed, I honestly thought that he would end up leaving.

What happens if Nuss feels he should start after spring practice… if he transfers then our QB situation is sh*t.

That's the potential for any team with a good QB in the system, behind the starter

I don't know any of these people personally, just going by general knowledge. But Nussmeier's dad is an NFL QB coach who has been an OC in college at the P5 level. He was also an NFL qb who rode the bench and never got a true crack at starting. I remember him as a Saint, he did have a gun for an arm.

If "playing now" was a burning issue, having to get on the field ASAP, you clearly start the bowl game, and start getting game tape and experience.
Say what you want about the interim coach making the call, the Nussmeier camp did not want to burn his redshirt, and that came out publically.

I was more angry that playing in a bowl game would cost him a year of eligibility. That was ludicrous.

So wouldn't it be a good idea to have a couple of more weeks of practice and a game to sharpen that first round talent?

He still got to practice during bowl prep.
