I’m a practicing Catholic, but my wife and I have attended “Mass” at Bethany, a time or two. I was taken aback by the reverse ATMs in the lobby, coffee shops, and t-shirts being sold like at the rasslin’ matches. It didn’t feel like church, to me.

Not to mention everyone was dressed like they were at the mall. I asked my wife if the people who hung out at the coffee bar the whole hour got credit with God for attending.

I think Jesus would find it a bit disappointing that his making straight the path to God for the believer would result in the "true religion" requiring a mediator to intercede for that which no longer needed intercession.

I think Jesus would find most American churches pretty disappointing.

Not a member of Bethany

But if given choice of structured, repetitive, ritualistic, formal, with message in language other than English by only men

OR

Relaxed, energized, uplifting, lots of outreach, in English in simple to understand terms

I would choose neither

But throw in all walks of life (even them Womens) participating, gimme the latter.

I mean I guess you could go to a Traditional Latin Mass if you want...but hasn't been the norm since Vatican II

Is relativism (we don’t abuse children anymore than the next religion) really the argument you want to make?

Ignoring God’s design of human reproduction and not allowing priests to marry women point aside, more humility is needed to recognize the despicable behaviors by some (acts and cover ups) by those who claim to be people of God, no matter the brand of religion. Me thinks.

Not Latin. The insular religious language (English) used by specific religions to separate the shiny flock from the regular flock, vapid and uninspiring as it were.

Read the Bible
It says give 10% of your income to a crappy minister?

The New Testament only says to "give as you have prospered". The whole 10% business came from Judaism and tithing, which was 10%. No where are Christians commanded to give a certain percentage.

And as for the "crappy minister" part, I attend a small country church. The only person that gets paid by the church is our preacher and he makes about $200-300 a week. That's it. All other leadership positions are unpaid/volunteer. The rest of our donations, after building expenses and whatnot, go to doing as much good as possible.

Same "group" that had kratom banned in Ascension Parish. Was on facebook calling kratom a narcotic. Then in classic Ascension Parish fashion...poof! No more kratom. My beef with that was kratom may be alot of things, but a narcotic it is not.

I know several heavily involved in that "church" and they've been arrested for narcotics, dwi, etc. That Church is full of hypocrisy
