So right now I’m looking at the mid size Masterbuilt gravity charcoal grill/smoker and the recteq 590 pellet grill…. Does anyone here have any input on these or other pellet grill/smokers? I know pit boss and traeger are also big too. TIA

Me and a few others I know have Camp Chef grills and are very happy. If you have the budget though, get a recteq.

I love my recteq

I have a campchef pellet smoker. It is set it and forget it. Recteq is a fan favorite of the food board so it is probably solid too.

I have green mountain, it's been very solid and always consistent cooking and holding temps. The paint is shite though. Had a Traeger for a short while before it was extremely finicky. Rectec seems like a great choice if it's in your budget.

Rectec without a doubt.

I have a Camp Chef. No complaints.

Costco has a really good price on these
*I don't have either but have seen the Masterbuilt at the N.O. Costco. Tempting.

I have both of these. I've had the 590 for over two years and the Masterbuilt a couple of months. I like them both a lot. If I had to choose, I'd pick the rectec because of build quality.

I just want to point out the technical... that the masterbuilt gravity does not use pellets. It is not a pellet grill.
I went with Camp Chef Woodwind earlier this year. I cross shopped Camp Chef and Recteq. The reason I went with Camp Chef is propane side burner, but now I realize you can add it to other pellet grills.
Propane option/side burner is a must for quick cooking hot dogs or etc. As a reference the minimum startup + shutdown on the Camp Chef is 30 mins. So add cook time for total "on" time. You would be looking at like 45 min on time to "cook" a hotdog. Speaking of if you are used to propane, a pellet grill is sloooooooow. For instance you would want to smoke burgers at 200-225 deg for 60 min then finish (sear) to desired internal temp at much higher temp (or on propane). My wife always wants a "let me know when we are 15 mins out" and I look up at her with feet up and beer in hand "aight". Ive found in general I need a lot more time to cook on pellet vs propane.
I have a Masterbuilt electric MES30 and no complaints but it does seem like a budget brand.

Go with the RT700.....

I have the Recteq 590. I can honestly say its the best smoker I have owned. Its build quality and best PID controller make it stand above the other pellet smokers.
It holds temp to the degree. It doesn't sway temp at all. It makes smoking easy.

Will you be using it more as a grill or as a smoker?
I have the Rectec B380 Bullseye. It's a great grill (goes up to ~800 degrees) and a decent smoker. It's more direct heat than the others like the RT700. Still does a good job on ribs, brisket, etc.
I want to get an RT700 something bad, could put the Bullseye at the camp.

Got the masterbuilt 550 shortly after they first came out and I've used the shite out of it. Definitely a great grill but would look at the next size up now (wasn't available then). Someone mentioned its not a pellet grill but the concept is exactly the same except you're using briquettes or lump. Great grill!

I am very happy with my Pit Boss Pro Series 1600. There are so many of these things on the market it is hard to narrow it down and pick one. A removable ash pot is a big deal. I wouldn't own one that didn't have that or some other way to clean out the fire pot without having to take all the grates and deflectors out. Also, a lot of these things claim a high number of square inches yet are very small. It is a good idea to look at them in person if possible.
The pellets make a world of difference on these things. I like anything with hickory or cherry. Kingsford and Lumberjack have been my favorites. Knotty Wood plum is supposed to be one of the best. I just haven't bought any yet.

Google Yoder. Best in the business. I've had one for two years now and whether its brisket or a pork butt it allows a novice like me churn out top notch bbq. A little pricey but damn well worth it.
And 100% American made.

I have been extremely pleased with my Green Mountain I got a few months ago.
It does not put out as much smoke as I would like, but I guess thats the trade off to being able to go low and slow, then hit a button and grill quickly at 450-500.
Smoke tube on grates should take care of the issue though.
