Virginia Tech (away) - 26-8
Auburn (away) 31-7
Bama (home) - 31-0
BK is having to completely 180 the culture, in addition to bringing a whole bunch of new habits, accountability, etc. He's having to do it with some talent, but also some glaring holes in certain positions' talent. He's doing it with a ton of new players.
Some of you expect perfection immediately when there is no basis at all for this team to be anything other than what most of us think - a middling SEC team who will lose some games, and likely win 1 or 2 it shouldn't.
Are there concerns? Yes - special teams and our inability to start games well continue to be huge problems which aren't being fixed. Are their questions? You bet - quarterback, using the WRs, and player rotations (especially LB and WR). But up until UT, there has been a lot this team has improved on an almost weekly basis and the fight they have shown has been fun to watch. The UT offense also has the potential to expose a lot of teams defensive limitations (Which we do have).
So just calm down, cheer for the Tigers, and remove the expectations from this year, other than seeing a team learn and grow.

Saban only had one year where he lost fewer than 3 games. In his fifth and final LSU lost 5. We are just a more entitled and impatient fan base now.

Saban took over a program that had been in the dark ages.
We’re now a couple of years removed from the greatest title team in NCAA history.
The two are incomparable.

Nick Saban was 50 years old in 2002 in his third year of his second head coaching job.
Brian Kelly is 60 years old in his first year of his fifth head coaching job.
Maybe a better comparison would be Saban at Bama, not LSU.

Only highlight was the Bradie James fake punt

Why do people keep comparing Kelly to Saban? Because if you want us to give him Saban expectations it’s going to get a lot worse on here.

It could be worse. Brent Venables came in to a much better situation than Kelly and look at how he's doing.

This is true, but let's not forget LSU had won 5 in a row following the Va Tech loss and had blown out Florida when Matt Mauck got hurt. Marcus Randall then took over. They were ranked around #10 or so. Not sure if LSU would won those games but I'm confident in saying they would have been much closer.

Yall love looking for excuses for failure/poor coaching performance... you're either blaming Orgeron or comparing Saban's tenure 20+ years ago.
I can see it now...it will be Week 7 of next year and some of yall will be saying the same shite.

The very many functioning retards in our fanbase don’t want to hear this. They only log on to take out their own professional insecurities on the LSU coaches and players.
That’s the only explanation I have for all the people calling CBK a failure here already.

Anyone wanting to "write the story" of the Kelly tenure after 6 games is ridiculous. LSU was picked to finish 5th in the SEC West this year. That they lost to a good Tennessee team SHOULD not be all that surprising.
However, there are valid reasons for questions this season. First and foremost, the offense seems to be getting worse. That's a concern. Yes, the QB is having his issues. But in football it is NEVER the fault of just one guy. LSU's offensive approach has been largely predictable and risk averse. Outside of Daniels, LSU flat out can't run the ball. Of course, some of that is due to a young and frankly (at this point) marginally talented OL. But there has been no adjustment to the approach the running game. Hell, even after 6 games of no production last season Jake Peetz changed his approach. Kelly and Denbrock seem hell-bent they are going to make TEs an integral part of the offense...even though that is far and away the weakest position on the field. Why waste time with two TE sets when you, yourself, have said the TEs can't block. Maybe in the future the TE becomes a big part of the team. But not this year. Overall, though there doesn't seem to be any strong desire to revise what has been an anemic offensive approach. No, LSU isn't going to transform into Tennessee in one week. But clearly what they are doing isn't working

Coincidently it was because we had to start a subpar QB at the time….
Exactly why I fully expect us to finish 9-4/8-5. Which is fine.

Ok Saban won the SEC in year 2 as well
Let’s not shift the narrative like a hypocrite next year, ok?

Good OP.
2002 was a tough transition year, but Mauck's injury had a lot to do with the tailspin toward the end.
02 and even 04 were pretty up and down with some bad Ls

Both of these games were awful and still hard to look back upon.

Stop comparing Kelly to Saban. It’s not fair to Kelly to be compared to the greatest coach in history of college football. Nor is a it fair to say he will follow the path of Saban and win a championship. LSU was not on the national stage when Saban took over from Dinardo. Saban built LSU into the national brand that they are today. Every coach since him rode off his success. Even now when we land all of these high recruits.

Many forget Saban changed the mindset of this program. Yes, he got blown out multiple times in his 3rd season, but by his fourth season we didn't storm the field after a big win, nor did we use kickoff time as an excuse for poor play.
Kelly is in a similar situation. Ed O left a big mess. He needs to change the culture and expectations. His gameday coaching does leave a few questions, but this man is going to need a few years to get this program back.

I'll get the DV's but dont care.
The state of the program is vastly different. Also, Saban wasn't entitled to the transfer portal with an NIL budget. I am not shitting on BK till year 3 which is more than reasonable with the money he has to work with.
I'm not loving everything I am seeing by BK though and that's okay. He's showing an element of stubbornness, eerily similar to Les. They picked a QB with a lower ceiling to develop in a rebuild year whilst having a much better QB ride the pine. We lose Nuss this year, then next year will be very similar because JD will get the start Howard aint getting it yet... "young, inexperienced" or whatever else the coach speak is.
Time will tell

Sure I'm not the first to point out in '02 that the loss to Va Tech was Mauck's first start and we had a buttload of drops.
But we got it together and blew UF out in the Swamp. Then Mauck got hurt.
Both the Auburn and Bama losses were without the starting QB.
If the point of this thread was to somehow excuse CBK's bad decision making against Saban's low spots, it should be mentioned that Saban was about 10 yrs younger then than CBK, had just won an SEC, and would go on to win about 4 natty's by the time he was CBK's present age.
