Where do you stand on CFB and NFL officials being told to influence certain games?

IMO, I definitely believe that officials are given directions in some way shape or form for certain games.
I’m not saying the directions are to blatantly allow Team A to beat Team B, but I know that officials are told to keep certain games close.

I don’t have a link, but I have a buddy who has been refereeing Sun Belt, CUSA, and AAC CFB games for several seasons now and he has told me quite a few times to watch certain games bc he “had a feeling Team A would definitely cover the spread against Team B that day”

There's plenty of circumstantial evidence, and we all have prejudices when it comes to calls for or against us when our teams are involved. Unless there's a set of recordings proving that refs intentionally influencing the game is the norm, and those recordings come to light, the status quo persists.

Bro, nobody could keep a secret of that magnitude.
An official might influence a game on his own for any number of reasons.
I don’t believe there is an order from the league office to officials to influence certain games. Too risky.

I think they’re told to be a little looser with the flags in certain games, against certain teams, in certain situations.
I don’t think they’re told to make sure one team wins, I’ve just seen too many questionable flags in critical moments to believe it’s all chance. I firmly believe they’re told to “keep an eye out” for opportunities to throw flags at certain times.

Recently watched Untold: Flagrant Foul on Netflix.
An nba ref exposed how in prep for games, they would be told to watch for/crack down on certain calls. They were also allegedly told to not make calls on the superstars because it was better for the game. Another situation with Allen Iverson, iverson and a ref got into it in a past game, so the entire crew called a carry every single time it was questionable. They were also given direction to call games in playoff series in a way that could extend the series.
This ref was funneling this information on which way to bet on games, and he was caught.
The calls weren’t egregious, he actually graded out as a top 3 nba ref. He was doing as he was told and calling games the way he was instructed.
Take that as you will, but I think there’s certainly influence. There’s too much money involved for there not to be.

As someone who has watched SEC football for 30 years, the refs know where their bread is buttered and they all want to he retained for that cushy $100,000+ side gig.
Not saying they purposefully cheat for Bama in Tuscaloosa, but it's always super egregious crap.
SEC offices need to be moved out of Birmingham.

I think they call those "points of emphasis" for NFL games.

Almost everything Donaghy said in that documentary is a documented, proven, and long established fabrication to make himself look better lol.

2007 the Big East refs did everything they possibly could to get West Virginia into the title game but couldn’t
It definitely happens but I don’t think it’s quite as widespread as some think.

I think this is the reality, not some grand scheme by the league office.
We as fans want to believe there is some conspiracy because the only other reasoning is gross incompetence. When you see things like the Saints/Rams call it's just hard to believe officials at the highest level of the sport could be that incompetent, so we look for other explanations.

We could repost all the numbers about how historical penalty differentials show that the opposite is actually true and Bama's opponents get called for fewer penalties than opponents of any other team in the conference, but why bother? No amount of pictures of the Earth from space will ever convince some of y'all that it isn't flat.

The no-call solidified it for me - not only was it PI, but it was a helmet to helmet. Those refs 100% were told to get LA into the Super Bowl.

Unless a flag is thrown on the LSU or Saints opponent on every single play, those respective fan bases will argue the conference/league/world is conspiring against them.

2009 Arkansas Florida was the clearest example I've ever seen. Nothing comes close.

If you don’t think the leagues have a vested interest in certain outcomes and don’t act to try to ensure certain outcomes, you’re naive.
It is why I hate instant replay in all sports and it’s also why I hate that at least NFL officials wear ear pieces now. Those things lead to more people involved and less transparency.

I was convinced there is no influence from the leagues when Alabama had their best DL of the last 30 years and not a single opponent was called for a single hold ALL season
