Deltaland - if you are seriously depressed seek professional help.

Nothing would be solved by killing two or three or four billion people and destroying most of the world's economic capabilities.

The current deficit as a percentage of GDP has been reduced to more normal levels after the 2020 pandemic year. Of course that isn't the entire story of the national debt but it is an encouraging trend.
LINK

The total debt figure as a percentage of the GDP has reached an all time high for the USA of 137%. That is troubling but not an impossible burden. Lucky for us most of that debt is denominated in USD. The problem is still manageable.

We couldn’t make N-95 masks during the pandemic. China made billions off of selling us COVID stuff.

You’re not better because you were used like a pawn by corrupt, powerful people.

The better answer is your generation was abused a lot more than Gen X.

That should make you angry. It makes me angry.

Congrats that we didn’t starve?

Maybe we didn’t starve but I know a lot of people who suffered greatly and lost a lot because of stupid politics played by abusive, powerful people.

Moreover, I think it played a significant negative role in how people view economics and politics, the effects of which we are still dealing with today.

I don’t see a need to diminish that reality or discount it as not really a big deal.

Yes, agreed. The Millennials I think are the most self aware generation. They got to see the old world die, the new world to be born just to immediately ignite into a dumpster fire. We talked with World War II veterans. I identified with the film “The Help” because I was pretty much the last up to have black nannies help raise the kids and I was very distraught when she left when I was five.

But I also got to see the digital revolution and watch the insanity unfold in real time. Unlike our parents the Boomers, we understand what was going on even if we were similarly dismayed. The Zoomers and Covidians will not know a world before 9/11, and thus they’re blind how a free country should work. I’m willing to bet most members of Zoomers haven’t talked to a World War II veteran and the Covidians certainly haven’t. We are the Looking Glass generation who is almost every bit as flawed as the Boomers who raised us, but we know the truth. Again, Boomers would be too proud to admit this, but this will be what people like me will say to Zoomers and Covidians:

Tim Dillon puts it best from the Millennial perspective on what we the Boomers-Millennials have done to this country: The American Party is fricking Over

Are you Joe Biden? We're still spending more money than we have. That does NOT reduce the deficit Joe. Spending money does not reduce the debt.

I dont encourage you to come on here and repeat more of the Joe Biden lies.

Yes, reduce spending, something the Democrats think is an evil on its own and for the Republicans spending money is just an addiction.

No matter what, if we do not become more fiscally responsible the pain will get worse and worse, and maybe those chickens are coming to roost right now.

Either way, the deficit has not been reduced, that was just the idiot Joe Biden rambling on about it. Spending less money but still blowing out the budget still adds to the debt.

Both hurt it but America was so rich by the time FDR took over it wasn't debilitating. Talking capital stock, human capital, etc.

The economy didn't recover until military spending was slashed after the war. The New Deal worst excesses were already over by the time we raped up for war.

Please understand that the deficit and the national debt are two different things.

Think of the deficit as the current year's budget and think of the debt as the accumulation of all net prior deficits. That's simplistic but not too inaccurate.

The last year we had a budget surplus (reducing national debt) was 2000. But getting the deficit as a percent of GNP is a step in the right direction.

2017 - 4.63% (Last Obama year)
2018 - 5.44%
2019 - 5.73%
2020 - 14.49%
2021 - 10.18% (Last Trump year)
2022 - 4.78%

Projected 2025 - 5.16%

Not certain the deficit reduction act will help going forward.

Any southerner that doesnt push back against their child joining the military is directly destroying their own self interests. Weakening the globalist authoritarian military is one of the best ways to protest this puppet oligarchy in charge.
