And it just keeps getting better and better for Western Europe. Hope the virtue signaling was worth it when the snow starts dropping.

quote:

PARIS/STOCKHOLM/MILAN, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Once unthinkable, mobile phones could go dark around Europe this winter if power cuts or energy rationing knocks out parts of the mobile networks across the region.

Russia's decision to halt gas supplies via Europe's key supply route in the wake of the Ukraine conflict has increased the chances of power shortages. In France, the situation is made worse by several nuclear power plants shutting down for maintenance.

Telecoms industry officials say they fear a severe winter will put Europe's telecoms infrastructure to the test, forcing companies and governments to try to mitigate the impact.

Currently there are not enough back-up systems in many European countries to handle widespread power cuts, four telecoms executives said, raising the prospect of mobile phone outages.

European Union countries, including France, Sweden and Germany, are trying to ensure communications can continue even if power cuts end up exhausting back-up batteries installed on the thousands of cellular antennas spread across their territory.

Ya hate to see it happen.

Having a set of GMRS radios is a good investment for your survival kit.

It can probably be avoided with modern day smart meters in most major cities. European operators can request that their cell sites get whitelisted so they're not shut down during rolling blackouts.

Now whether that type of preparation happens is a different story. Given all the regulatory hurdles that stand in the way, it probably won't happen. And since Europe doesn't experience many natural disasters, the vast majority of cell sites aren't equipped with battery systems or diesel generators like hurricanes/earthquake prone areas.

Why are they scared of warm weather due to man-made climate change?

Climate change make winters even colder!

Everyone knows that. Before climate change, winters were 0.00004 degrees warmer, on average.

Trust the science.

I'll say one thing, there is no greater accumulation of virtue signaling credibility than to freeze your gonads off in a long, dark cold winter to save the earth from a 0.5* C temperature rise caused by man made climate change.

This really sucks and we should do something to help bolster their networks

I was really looking forward to watching Mad Max goes to Europe via amateur, shaky, cell phone videos

They just need to get a few hundred thousand acres of wind farms built by Mid October and they're good

This is a good example of the costs I was referring to in another thread.

Permitting rogue countries to act like Russia did will cost us all a great deal of money. The question is if those costs will outweigh what it costs to help Ukraine thwart the invasion by Russia.

Russia is really fricking things up with their bullshite.

It almost seems like they are trying to normalize hardships so they can use regular energy/food/fuel/supply chain issues as a tool to force compliance.

We have global shortages. There is nothing we can do. The common people must sacrifice...

I'm no fan of Russia but Europe's energy crisis is Europe's problem and Europe's fault
