Baton Rouge Police Needs New Leadership Now

We, the signers of this petition, request the immediate resignation, or immediate reassignment to non-administrative duties, of Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul and Deputy Chief Myron Daniels.

Chief Paul and Deputy Chief Daniels are nearing their 6th year of leading the administration of the Baton Rouge Police Department. In that time, the department has been reduced to a "barely functioning" organization, and it shows.

1. Crime is at a historic high, with the last two years seeing the highest murder rates in Baton Rouge history. This year is on track to rank in the top 3 years, as well.

2. Morale of the officers who serve in the Department is at an all-time low, which has directly resulted in the rise in crime.

3. The number of officers serving is at historical lows, approaching 200 officers short of allotment. This is a direct result of low morale and failed policies.

4. The disciplinary process within the department has been weaponized to punish those who disagree with the administration. Conversely, those that are friendly to the top men, or who are members of social organizations with them, receive favorable treatment and, in some cases, outright immunity.

5. Because of these disciplinary issues in the last year alone, Chief Paul has spent nearly 6 times the amount of taxpayer money than any of his predecessors in legal battles with his officers.

6. Despite constant claims of “transparency and accountability”, Chief Paul and Deputy Chief Daniels have refused access by the only media source that questions his administration in any meaningful way, violating not only caselaw related to this matter, but the US Constitution which they have taken an oath to uphold.

Baton Rouge has given Chief Paul and Deputy Chief Daniels 5 years to improve the Baton Rouge Police Department; however, by every single metric that the success of an organization can be measured, all things are worse than when their tenures began. Our citizens and our officers cannot afford another moment of this administration and are demanding an immediate replacement of these two men.

The organizer has a disclaimer:

Has a change.org petition ever actually accomplished anything?

Residents of EBR need to be harassing the shite out of our metro council members to do their jobs

It’s like any of these other BS resign signings.

8 million people could sign and it will go absolutely no where

Police Chief for Baton Rouge and New Orleans are both too important to be left as appointments by incompetent mayors.

Applied to 5 jobs in the past week. 2 in North Colorado, 2 in NW Arkansas, and 1 remote. Won’t stop applying until I get a job elsewhere that can match or beat my salary.

Wife already works remote and travels for work. Not planning to raise my son here. Hope it gets better, but I’m not going to be around to see it.

Who exactly does this petition go to if it gets enough signatures?

An online petition to force an unelected employee to resign is pointless.

If you really want action, recall the mayor who appoints the police chief. Pressure must be put on her. She is the Mayor President, so get to the rural areas of the parish and get your signatures.

But if we are being honest, the only way to really make change is to get rid of the consolidated form of government.

Well, Murphy Paul lives in Ascension. That SHOULD NOT be allowed. He should live in the city that he is fricking up and suffer lime the rest of us.. Baton Rouge deserves better.

Petitions like this are about as good as when people have a March for peace
