Alec Baldwin is likely to be charged for shooting and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his low budget movie Rust in Bonanza City, New Mexico on October 21, 2021.

The Daily Mail reports that Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies submitted a letter on August 30 to the New Mexico financial board, asking for funding to indict four defendants and that it was recently approved. In the letter Carmack-Altwie wrote, "One of the possible defendants is well known movie actor Alec Baldwin."

Carmack-Altwie asked for $635,000 to prosecute and said that murder charges were on the table along with other weapons related offenses. She said that a "final piece of evidence" was Baldwin's phone, as authorities were waiting results from its analysis.

Good. Baldwin deserves jail time for killing her.

I get people don’t like Baldwin but I don’t see how this rises to anything other than an accident.

He won't see jail time
Maybe it's something they have to do in order to pursue the civil case
That's where they will get the money from

Because it was an avoidable accident.

I agree, and especially don't get how murder charges are on the table. Unless there is some weird shite going down on his phone where he's like "I can't wait to shoot this chick tomorrow on set and kill her," I have no idea how murder is even remotely in play.

I think Baldwin is a douche as much as everyone else does, but fricking murder just seems downright implausible (at this point).

When you deliberately point a loaded weapon at someone, and then pull the trigger on purpose, there should be legal consequences when your actions result in a person's death.

I think its more negligence that accidental. If he was just an actor that was handed a gun with a live round in it then he is probably getting off. But since he was the producer and should have had some involvement with everything going on onset, then he shouldn't have allowed the movie gun to have been used at all with real bullets.

No one is saying that it wasn’t an accident.

All anyone has ever said is that any other American, who wasn’t a celebrity, would have been charged with something and would likely face jail time.

Alec Baldwin should be treated like everyone else.

This isnt the first time a shooting accident has happened on set. Seems like a defense attorney would just bring up past cases to defend Baldwin.

Michael Massee, who accidentally shot & killed Brandon Lee while filming The Crow, faced no criminal charges because there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing against him. The accident was found to be 100% caused by negligence and Lee's family sued the movie studio overseeing filming. They settled out of court.

What's the difference this time that the actor would/should face criminal charges? And that is a legit question - I dont know the facts about this incident.

what a mess .... you never skimp on a good armorer, no matter the size of the film. The chances of this happening on a properly run and budgeted film are almost 0.

The armorer should get just get whatever Baldwin gets, too.

Both are probably manslaughter, or some kind of accidental death misdemeanor.

I'm sure Baldwin will avoid jail time, or get something like 30 days in the county jail or some low level state pen, but he will probably be fined as well.

A potential Civil suit is is what could really wreck him.

One big difference between this and the Brandon Lee incident is the fact that they were filming a scene where weapons are pointed at Brandon and fired. In Baldwin's case, they weren't filming anything. He pointed the gun at the cinematographer and pulled the trigger.
