I lived in Naples for five years. I was told that if you are east of 41 you should not flood from hurricane surge.

We're west of 41 right at the entrance to Vanderbilt Beach (Wiggins Pass). 1/2 mile at most from the Gulf.

Does the the Hurricane running over Cuba affect the surge? Just seem logical to me that running over Cuba kills some momentum of the surge as opposed to if the Hurricane came right through Yucatan Channel between Mexico and Cuba.

It would have some effect but it'll be a major hurricane for at least a day in the Gulf. It'll be bringing more than enough to be a problem.

I live in northern St. John’s. county. In this area of there is flooding it will likely be from the inter coastal.
Hastings is in southwest St. John’s. It is inland but it does sit near the St. John’s river. It has a way of getting backed up due to the direction of the winds. The St. John’s is notorious for flooding in Jacksonville and down stream. Family there would be best to ask people that have lived in Hastings where the St. John’s has backed up to in the past.

Thank you. I just booked a dog friendly room in Miami. Seems like it's south and east enough. A two hour drive across alligator alley and we're there.

This path is more or less exactly what was predicted a week ago.

The Bucs also play a home game Oct. 9. They could have two games moved out of town!

Not sure about the winds, but this looks like a major flooding event for the Tampa area.

It’s been a pretty crappy morning here with the news. It really felt good to laugh! Thanks- I really needed it. Stress is high around these parts right now.

Hastings area.

shite, are they potato or melon farmers? They might get some low flooding, but the st johns river is right there for quick exit, and our ground is sandy af. I'm like 30 minutes west of them, and micro bursts or full on 'nadoes are honestly my biggest concern. I drove on 207 through Hastings after Matthew and Irma, it was really just the agriculture fields that got flooded. My dad had a beach house in northern Flagler county we had to check on. Most of his neighbors got wet with storm surge on those 2 storms, so I really wouldn't expect the st johns river to be much higher in Hastings/p-latka area than either of those events.

You're in that tricky/uncomfortable phase where you're going to have to explain to your family that you're getting your info and updates from a thread on the OT at a place called Tiger Droppings.

They may ask for a link to check out the source themselves. Don't give it to them, it is for the best.

Thank you all for this thread and for the information. The last hurricane I went through was Camille which was one hell of a hurricane.
