know the White House has been trying to broker a deal, but the Union wants like 30% pay raises for everyone. Could be a lose / lose for Biden on this one.
I thought Dems supported the unions.
Surprised there’s not a 40% raise with the extra 10% finding it’s way back to Dem coffers.

Well, the class one railroads would have to pay that ... pretty sure a 30% increase in labor across the board is going to be rough for them to eat.

I don't think the nation could handle more than a week or two of this strike. I don't think the average American understands how much of their daily lives would be effected by rail not running.
They won’t be allowed to strike that long.

Is Biden going to bust the union and force them back to work?

Poop hole Pete doesn’t work. Gotta take baby leave and a queen on morning shows.

If this affects Amtrak in the Northeast Corridor and in Chicago, the result for commuters could be chaotic.

Just heard Amtrak is canceling long trips.

Supposedly the new contract calls for zero sick days which is what upset the union. I hope the union gets some serious concessions. Labor can't be a huge cost for the railroads.

Dems will resolve this by giving Ukraine another $40BB.

Labor is the number one expense for the railroads.

Who is going to allow them to strike?
Posted on 9/13/22 at 9:52 am to mmcgrath
Regardless of outcome, I 100% predict Joe will tell his stupid Amtrak story to the cameras when he publicly addresses the issue.
Posted on 9/13/22 at 9:54 am to saints5021
Congress will order them back to work.
Or at least that’s what I was told.

Havent felt any supply chain restraints . Boats for miles backed up off the coast garbage . Food plant explosions etc . Everything is more expensive but I havent found problems finding anything. Is this reality only found on social media ? Serious talk

I don't pretend to understand the mechanics or legal basis but apparently Congress can intervene and "prevent" the strike - and are planning to do so in order to save further damage to Biden's economy.

Well the cost of most things is up like 30% so can't say that I blame them

OT thread indicates that one union has a proposed settlement and Congress is trying to impose two more 30 day cool off periods before a strike.
The latter in particular suggests this won’t get fixed and the Dems want to drop this mess into the GOP’s lap.

I know coal for power generation is delivered by rail, Does anyone know how many days of supply those plants typically keep on hand? Can they run a week or a month without the trains delivering more coal?
