Curious of the general board consensus. Talking with a friend and she thinks it’s weird to not work out together all of the time. Apparently she is adamant they go to the gym together. Every time.

Me and the SO sometimes go together if our schedules line up that way. And with the kettlebell routine I’m on right now, I workout more at home as a result. There’s also part of me that feels like that’s time for me to just do my thing and decompress.

Thoughts?

Sounds like she’s worried about him looking around at the other sights at the gym.

We go together when our schedules line up but we don’t workout together even when we’re there. Completely different workout programs/equipment used

hell no, my wife doesnt really workout though and would not like the way i do

just to be clear is your friend and her SO truely working out together or are they just at the gym at the same time?

i ask because i wouldnt want to do cardio all the time nor a butt building program all the time and doubt any women would be looking to build the traps and arms like a guy.

i mean unless he is just a wuss who only does cardio or they both do cardio its hard to imagine they want the same things out of training.

also is your friend really insecure because it sounds like it. and lets see if she keeps that up with young kids.

I've been trying to get mine back in to working out for a while now so I'd be happy if she'd join me but also

this is huge. Sometimes I like to be alone and let the darkness out.

no

My workouts are far too intense for my wife.

Plus she is a SAHM and work outs during the day, while I work out in the evenings.

Plus she mostly just does yoga or rides the Peloton.

We do yoga together on occasion, but that's about it.

I’ve got a pretty legit home gym setup. My wife and I have gotten in a good routine of putting kids down at 7 pm then going to workout together.

My wife and I go to the gym at the same time these days. We didn't for years, but our schedules are such now that we both need to go early in the morning (5:00am). As such, it's easier if we hold each other accountable.

We also do group fitness (HIIT/Crossfit style workouts) together for the most part. I've been contemplating getting back to a more traditional heavy lifting routine (5/3/1 or 5x5) because I do feel like I've lost a lot of strength and muscle mass (leading to more fat in the midsection). But I've struggled with motivation when I'm just doing my own workout lately.

We run together. We did go to the gym together (same time, not same workouts), but I've been doing more home workouts lately and he gets his gym time in at work.

We try to because it keeps her motivated. I usually get a better workout loading and unloading plates for us. If we run together, we'll run the first 2 or 3 miles at her pace then she's done. I treat it as a warm up for my run.

In line with what most others are saying. We go together if our schedules allow for it, but even then we don't work out together once we're there.

My arse and legs would be twice their size if so and my upper body would be nearly non existent on her regiment

I workout to get away from my SO. That’s “me time”.

There's nothing like an early morning cardio session before crawling out of bed.

My wife and I work out together whenever we possibly can.

Anything but chest day our routines are basically the same. Most of the time it’s easy to change out weights or I’ll just go higher volume.

For us, it’s great. Weight lifting isn’t a chore it’s a hobby. We literally get a babysitter sometimes so we can go to the gym together.

That being said, we go alone more often than not. She’ll go during the day with the baby and I’ll go in the morning or evening. Certainly isn’t weird to go alone.

Same.

Unless my wife is willing to spot and amp me up like Ronnie Coleman with some “Light weight” and “Ain’t nothing but a peanut” chants, then she would just be in the way.

No. He does his thing and I do mine. He sometimes watches me do cardio, though. Lol

Yep, 3AM every morning. We actually have a blast and it's a great start to our day. We mostly do the same routine on upper body, chest day she does glute stuff and leg day we don't do the same routine. Just fun to talk smack and laugh with her to get the day going.

I do this sometimes when my wife is spotting me and she gets annoyed by it "can you just lift and not do all that?"

Bitch no I can't

I would just be a fattie if my schedule required me to be up at 3AM to exercise

If the schedules work out, we will go to the gym at the same time but she won't lift with me. I have been trying to get her into the squat rack and onto bench press but she ain't having it.
