The Francis in St Francisville

Took the family last night. First time going since Covid. Their thin fried catfish used to be really good and had pretty good service. Well that shite they are serving isn't real catfish, not thin and the service is terrible. Our waiter never checked on for drink refills. I asked for cocktails sauce when our food was delivered and waiter never brought any. IT took 30 minutes to get the check once we were done eating.
People were waiting over an hour for a table when we left at 7 pm. Won't be going back.

Only thing I’ve had there was the deep fried ribeye and that was in January. The service in the smokehouse next door is slow too Gotta get there before 11am on a weekday for lunch if you want it quick.

Never thought it was anything special. Even pre Covid. Captive audience I guess due to location.

There are a few restaurants where I will just order 2-3 appetizers for the table and eat on those with everyone else. And that’s my meal. The Francis is one of those places. I live 5 minutes from there and refuse to eat there on the weekend. It’s just not worth the wait.
Now, the Francis smokehouse is my jam for lunch here and there. They also will have some chicken cracklings on occasion and I could eat myself to death on those things.

One thing that these restaurants just can't seem to figure out is to not seat more people than your kitchen/service staff can handle.
On a Friday or a Saturday night that is not all that unusual.

Shame to hear. Never been but heard it was good. My understanding is it was opened by a long time Sammy’s manager.

I didn’t think it was all that good before covid. Every single thing on the menu is fried except the salads LOL. Completely ordinary and too crowded to enjoy
the smokehouse though is excellent

Unfortunately many restaurants are switching to basa because it's so much cheaper and the average customer won't know the difference. I refuse to go to any restaurant on the gulf coast that doesn't serve local catfish.

That - or the wait staff puts all the tickets in at once -instead of table by table

My buddy fries basa at his LSU tailgates and tells everyone it’s trout and catfish, not one person has challenged that it wasn’t.

The owner used to post here. It's a shame he never took my advice and named their salad menu the Lighten Up Francis.

We went on a Sunday around 1pm a month ago. The dining room was full of empty dirty tables. They told us 20 minute wait, we stood there and watched the 5 girls at the hostess stand gossip for about 10 minutes, not 1 table was bussed while we were there. Te rolled out.
I’ve known Jason for years, done business with his restaurants. I never thought he would let that kinda crap slide.

They are opening up another big arse place in Zachary.
Think it’s called South Point or something like that.

I agree. Guy is nice but an absolute terrible waiter.

They being the Brown family.
New one in Zachary will be operated by Joel Frosch, who was also a manager for Sammy. Frances Southern Table operated by Jason Jackson. Frances Smokehouse operated by the Brown Family.
