Beyond Meat’s sales have fizzled rather than sizzled after fast-food trials of its product had customers asking, “Where’s the beef?”

McDonald’s is the latest fast-food giant to complete a trial of a Beyond Meat plant-based product (the McPlant burger).

JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst Ken Goldman released a market research note that indicated the product was being broadly discontinued in the U.S. last Thursday. The two companies signed a three-year global distribution deal in 2021.

Mr. Goldman, who spoke with employees at 25 McDonald’s locations, wrote that “Not surprisingly, the reason sometimes being cited is that the product did not sell well enough” and that the product was “McDone” in the U.S., according to The Fly, a financial news site.

Other trials at Panda Express and Yum! Brands (KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut) have also ended without a subsequent product launch. Beyond Meat products at Dunkin’, Hardee’s, and A&W have been discontinued after launching.

“You’re not going to change cultural tastes overnight. Recruiting your next phase of consumers requires more innovation and better-tasting products,” John Baumgartner, an analyst for the Japanese bank Mizuho, told Reuters.

Beyond Meat cut 40 jobs Wednesday in an effort to save money before it burns through all of its remaining cash. In 2022, its stocks have fallen by almost 50% and fell by a similar amount in 2021.

Beyond Meat sales drop

Crazy that fast food customers aren’t the target demographic for fake meat, who saw that coming

Burger King slipped in fake meat and we were mad at our kid for not eating his food. Then we tried and it tasted like poison.

The worst part is:
-Now my son has ingested this GMO Frankofood
-Burger King gets to act like they are actually using the product because they are sneaking it in

I would not eat this shite if they paid me to do it.

So, the market DOES affect what is sold.

Purchasing power vs. mandates. Hmmm

What makes ZERO sense to me is ALL these companies already operate in countries with high vegetarian populations. Instead of researching fake burgers why not just offer a veggie option from the Indian or Other foreign McDonald's?

The McDonald's in India don't even have burgers on the menu.

I still don’t understand the point of this other than trying to force it on meat eaters.

Why would a vegan eat something that tasted and resembled meat? What’s the point of that? Vegetables are actually good, but so is crispy pork.

If the pushing of fake meat at these restaurants doesn’t dispel the myth of market demand as the driver of corporate decisions for you nothing will.

Leftists and climate change nuts need to get on the plants and bug only diet so the rest of us can continue to enjoy our western diets, minus the fake ingredients, heavy sugars, and preservatives.

We all need to eat less but radical hippie diets are not going to go over well.

This is simple economics, if the hamburger tasted better and was half the cost, then this plant-based meat would be all the rage, but it doesn’t taste as good and it cost more, who the frick wants to buy that

Note to fast food companies: You want to dabble in non-meat options?

Then offer non-meat specific items. Stop trying to copy meat.

Salads have been on the menu for years and the sales speak volumes.

I would buy freeze dried veggies over fries/onion rings sometimes. Even freeze dries tomatoes/onion/pickles would add a nice crunch on a burger.

If you think people would reject meat-based tomatoes that taste like real tomatoes... you might be right.

If you think people would reject plant-based burger patties that taste like real burger patties... you might be right.
