What kind of olives? Years ago I put chopped black olives (not a lot) in a lasagna, based on a recipe I was trying. It was good, and no one who had some seemed to be aware of that ingredient.

Mushrooms, but never olives in my lasagna. My usual recipe is to use loose ground beef and small balls of Italian sausage.
If in the mood for meatless lasagna(rarely), I'll pull some Swiss Chard from the garden and use it as a spinach substitute and it comes out great.

Actually, it's the opposite.

Vegetables don't belong in Lasagna unless they are in the gravy... as in you can't detect them any longer.

I put mushrooms and green olives in my red gravy for spaghetti

I've experimented with olives but I didn't love it. I do put a small amount of shrooms and artichokes in there. My lasagna is vegetarian so I have other veggies in there too.

No. Never. Blasphemy.
Meat bolognese, bechamel, cheeses, pasta.

I love olives, but still wouldn't put them in a lasgna.
Mushrooms just belong in the woods or in the trash can.

Pioneer Woman Greek Spaghetti
I've made this once and it was different, but very good. I haven't remade yet and dialed it in to my tastes, but we definitely liked it.

Mushrooms make everything more delicious. Olives are disgusting.

SO puts mushrooms and black olives in his spaghetti and it's delicious so I imagine I would like it in lasagna as well.
I love both of those things, though.
Green olives? I LOVE green olives and I put them on my pizza so I imagine I would like that, too.

I've never had that kind of lasagna, but I'd be willing to try it. Olives and mushrooms go great with red sauces.

I've told the story on the forums before ...
When I was almost 3 we moved from Winnfield to Tampa and the house wasn't completed even. Dad went down to the docks and hired an Italian immigrant middle aged handy-man to help him finish up the interiors. (Dad was a Civil Engineer who served in the Corps of Engineers before college helping rebuild stuff in Germany in the 50's and was born and raised in a dirt floor shack that was added to as more babies born, 10 kids total. The handy-man retired from the Hotel/Motel Industry in Tampa where he was Chief Maintenance Operations Officer for some of the posh high rise hotels on the bay.)
So this handy-man and his wife kinda adopted my family as their own while we lived in FL. The Mrs. gave Mom a bunch of her Old World recipes including lasagna from scratch. The only thing allowed not from scratch was noodles and that was just time and labor savings. It literally takes all day to cook the sauce, meat, etc. and assemble it properly in the right order. Always worth it to invite Dad's Bosses to dinner and serve them that. Dad never failed to get the raise or promotion he asked for over those lasagna dinners!!!
I can assure you, nowhere in the recipe is even a mention of mushrooms, nor olives.

Growing up a can of mushrooms and a can of black olives went into the spaghetti sauce. Still prefer it like this. I assume it would be an equally good addition to lasagna

Funny you mention this. My wife cooked lasagna last wk and I told her all it needed was some mushrooms and black olives. She looked at me like I had just beat our dog! I showed her this thread this morning and we both had a good laugh.

Totally overwhelmed the "Italian" taste.

Do you put them in your potato salad? How about your gumbo?
