re: LHSAA: The Definition of 'Select' Schools Just Got A Lot More Broad

I LOOOOOOVE this!!
All these public schools who cried about privates while at the same time having a much larger competitive advantage have their chickens coming home to roost!
They could get anyone to go to their school, taxpayer funded (FREE), opening a larger pool of athletes- and they bitched and complained.
Now the classes will be what they actually said they wanted which is those who recruit openly as a part of their charter vs those that don’t

quote:This 100%. Too many schools and districts just get by instead of investing then get mad kids don’t want to go there. Pineville High is a big example, they don’t invest in sports but rather theatre.
If the public school is so good then they wouldn't go to the private. For example not many baseball players would leave barbe for a full ride to st louis. Know why?? Barbe offers more from a sport standpoint and offers more AP classes. Publics need to fricking worry about getting better. Offer better education, better environment, better coaching and better facilities if you don't want kids to leave.

Pretty sure that every high school in EBRPSS (except Northeast) has some kind of select component.

Talked to 2 coaches at Orleans Parish schools and neither seemed to think there would be an LHSAA breakaway.

You mean like Central beating St. Paul.

They were like 33 out of 62. A lot different than 32 out of 40
It looks like every school listed in 2011 would have been 5a or D1. There were 6 select schools. So Central would have been 26 (27?).
My point stands.
I just glanced at 2014 and 2015.
There were 24 upsets in non-select.
Five of them were seeded 25 or higher including this shocker:
#8 Carencro 0
#25 Covington 34
Feel free to dig, but the data supports my take.
It is high school ball. If it isn’t designed around championship probabilities (top 8 only), then let the kids make some memories. Will there be arse whoopings - yes. But there will be upsets (as evidenced by data).
I can promise you this, those kids on that Central team haven’t forgotten that game.
Go 8, or let 32 in.
Just my .02.

Bunch of regular BR schools are now in “select”?
And now they got Livonia in select??? Da hell? They’re the only regular public HS for the entire parish.

Got a link to the list? I can find Robin Fambrough’s article but not the list.
She said the totals are about 200 select and 195 non select, give or take

And on the non-select side, there’s Zachary… and not much else.
A lot of the other schools I’m seeing left are has-beens (West Monroe) or never-weres (Denham, Walker, Central, etc).
Depending what happens with the split long term, Zachary’s going to have to consider going select just to be taken seriously if the big boys are already there rather than non-select.

Zachary hates the split, and has made it very known
Problem is non-select is still strong for basketball and baseball which Zachary is very competitive in as well.
Seeing schools like Barbe and WM vote for the split is so funny. Surely they don’t try and pretend they don’t pull kids from outside their district

I realized that all Orleans Parish schools were going select, but didn't realize that Jefferson Parish was also.
The LHSAA statewide breakdown released Monday showed 210 schools as select and 195 as nonselect.
