I agree, and some of these clearly mentally ill individuals who do these things lack the parents to support them and encourage them to seek mental health help.

Might be the worst statement I have ever read on this board.

it's more of a community crisis IMO.

i can't find the study, but i'm 99% sure there's at least one reputable one that says a child who doesn't have a father at home, but lives in a community full of 2 parent households, will fare just about as well as the 2-parent household kids.

I think it's crises all the way down

But it starts with the dad crisis, which is the one that requires the community to take up slack

But yes, I think there is then a major issue in this country of the absence of genuine community, which I whine about all the time. It not only leaves kids directionless and alone, it keeps people from spotting the problem children in time to help.

Mature, invested fathers would solve 90% of youth social ills and I genuinely believe that with all my heart. Gangs, drugs, mistreatment of women, gender confusion, bullying, on and on and on.

Oh, and another thing. Absence of genuine community creates a cycle whereby there is no accountability for the absence of fathers. When the community doesn't care about what's going on with your family, the father can go absent and STAY in the community (which I think is a fairly modern phenomenon).

Not sure where I read that, and feel free to fact check me, but it sounds accurate.

This could be the slogan for the Poli Board.

You could have fact checked yourself before posting that drivel.

You think this country is particularly invested in knowing the fatherhood situation for mass shooters? Because I don't.

Maybe it's a crap statistic, but considering most mass shootings happen in the hood and not in rural or suburban schools, I'm sure the number is very, very high.

A strong mother can perhaps mitigate certain things, but she cannot replace an absent father.

I looked up your premise and it appears that the commonalities were not no father present—it was that their home life was shitty.

Most prisons are filled with men who came from fatherless homes.

I don’t know about that stat, but the gist of the OP is unquestionably true.

I think it is more of a parent crisis. A strong mother can fill the gap of a missing father. Part of the issue is that mothers let their kid do whatever they want since there is no father.

That's real easy to say. It's harder to put into practice for a mom whose teenager is bigger and stronger than she is and won't listen to a thing she says. Some kids go through a phase where they don't respect anyone who doesn't physically intimidate them. Your dad may never have to throw down with you, but knowing that he could keeps you at least somewhat in line. Very few mothers can do that.

Father crisis and a depression crisis stemming from social media is what is destroying this country. This kid wanted attention so bad that this is what he resorted to. We need to disconnect from the internet, we need fathers back in the home, and I really wish people would get closer to God
