They would have been taking him to the ER after I was done with him if he pulled that chit with me...buddy or not.

Kind of strange reporting there. It's possible the bass boat is as long or longer than the vessel, whatever that is.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. I guess 20-foot bass boat would be on large size, but I don’t know what is norm for False River.

I have been wondering if more specific details on boats have come out. I know that wasn’t most important part of story, but i am used to seeing more detail on boats in accidents especially with reporters based in Louisiana.

“It sounded like they hit pretty much head head on and the other boat went straight over the bass boat”

Opposite, bass boat went over the 20ft aluminum boat.

This is a really sad story. I feel horrible for the families involved. If you are from the area, you likely know at least one of those families.

Safety and crowding has been an issue on False River the last decade or so - especially on summer weekends. Nightfall only makes it worse.

Dang, and heading into one of the busiest boating weekends of the year.

We could be in the water here in Lake Lanier in 10-15 minutes, but we NEVER go there. It is freaking insane.
-sheer number of boats
-massive amounts of alcohol consumed
-huge number of rental boats piloted by morons
-Go fast boats piloted by idiots not paying attention to their surroundings
-massive massive ocean-worthy vessels on a lake creating huge wakes
And so on.

A friend of ours lost their kid in an inner tubing accident, they got run over by an a-hole that wasn't paying attention. It is impossible to not think about it.

I will gladly drive to find some nice, calm water. We keep our dang boat 3 hours away.

Stay safe, folks.

As I have gotten older boating at night just isn't worth it anymore. Too much can happen that you just can't see until it is too late.

For someone who has never been boating before, what's the point of being in the water with no lights. Seems awfully reckless.

Running with no lights makes it easier to avoid the Wildlife and Fisheries when you are drunk.

Press pause on the speculation Ahab. Both boats had their running lights on.

No. Only the dick shakers here speculating about the incident said this.

A person involved in the recovery said it’s
Been confirmed that both boats had their running
lights on.

its kind of funny how everyone wants to think the absolute worst...drunk...no lights etc. If there were a lot of lights on shore it is easy to miss some running lights even sober...things can go bad very quickly on the water

Amen. How bout they wait till the details come out before talking shite about the victims. But nothing brings out the macho “baws” to speculate and one up each other like an outdoors fatality

Boats had lights on and the bass boat went over the bow of the aluminum boat per the thread on the OB. You may be correct in that the light pollution caused the boats to not see each other. The individual familiar with the accident said it’s
Just that. An accident.

Toxicology reports will determine if the speculation was legit or just shite talking.

It's not a particularly big or wide lake, and can get VERY crowded in a hurry. That's one reason I've never liked hanging out there in the summers. On much wider lakes a few idiots can be mitigated because there is much more room to navigate around them. But on False River all it takes is a few idiots to cause some very big problems.

This is a particular challenge on a long but fairly narrow (half mile wide) curved and highly developed lake like that. It’s difficult to see boat marker lights in the dead of night when there are street lights, boat slips, and homes in the more distant background. All with lighting of their own.

And if the lake is busy for a tournament or something…it’s just makes it more risky to be out there at night, especially if some boats are moving at high speeds.

And sadly accidents do happen. This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve heard of a serious issue on False River in the past 20 years. Although this might be the worst.

I have a camp out at False River and it amazes me the number of boats, especially pontoon boats, where the driver is just nonchalantly lifting a beer up and sucking it down.
