NOLA: "11 New Orleans police officers now under federal investigation over details pay"

At this rate the NOPD may have more officers in jail than on patrol.
"Nearly a dozen New Orleans Police Department officers are under federal investigation for allegedly fudging their work hours and double dipping with off-duty details, officials confirmed Friday.
In response to a Thursday WVUE-TV report, the department acknowledged the FBI is now investigating 11 officers – up from five that sources said received federal “target” letters earlier this year over the pay scandal.
The department confirmed that Capt. Nicholas Gernon, who was tapped to investigate Richardson, found 44 violations of NOPD policy. The department declined to provide the report, citing an ongoing investigation.
Skip Gallagher, a University of New Orleans chemistry professor whose analysis of city and NOPD pay records exposed the scandal, said Friday that the timesheets of at least four other current or former Public Integrity Bureau officers reflected similar abuse.
Gallagher said he’s identified more than 40 NOPD officers with timesheets that together show repeated overlaps in on-duty and detail work or excessive hours. The force stands at just above 1,000 officers.

Wait what?...a chemistry professor doing analysis?
I'm not knocking the guy at all...NOLA really has no one else to keep this type of thing in check?

Also, why is there a Federal Investigation into breaking NOLA police Department policy? Unless the Public Integrity Division would be investigating and they are part of the crime....

If they are willing to be NOPD and the private details are the ones covering the cost then who really cares.
Fringe benefits should come with shitty jobs.

The city needs more cops and especially good cops.
They need @1,300 minimum and now it only has @800.
2 things I see as hurdles-
Social villification of cops hurts the profession. The social makeup in Nola is such that racial friction is exaggerated. Villify the cops and you end up with more cops who are villains.
2. Consent decree (circa 2012). This order makes it tough for cops to do a job that often times requires them to perform lightning fast duties in life threatening situations. The decree requires them to be especially “careful” so as to not offend anyone’s civil rights. That’s nice but very hard to carry out.
Anyone wanting to be a good quality cop is going to give New Orleans very little consideration.

Huge salaries when you factor in OT, and pensions.

The LEO that lives on my street drives a Porsche Panamera.
I’ll just leave it at that.
