Anyone have any recommendations for a family trip - kids are late teens? Hiking, relaxing, rafting, kayaking are high on the to-do list. I would prefer to stay in one area as opposed to puddle-jumping from town to town.

Check Breckenridge. Every activity you’ve mentioned is available with a neat little town .

Yep. I researched a ton on best family summer Colorado ski towns and it kept coming back to Breckinridge. We can’t wait to go back

Great downtown
Plenty of good restaurants
Bike trail runs all the way to Frisco. You can rent regular or mountain bike
They have activities at the top of the mountain for families including a mountain coaster.
They also have a River going through town that they have live music almost daily

Plenty of rafting places close by

I love Buena Vista, but Breckenridge is tough to beat for families.

Breck for sure. I guess you can kayak on Lake Dillon, which is about 20-25 minutes from town. Rafting will be about 1.5 hours away depending on which spot you choose. We did Clear Creek and it was fun. Not overly challenging either (if you have family / kids).

Places we've liked with teen son are:
Denver - lots to do.
Colorado Springs -less to do but more compact.
Crested Butte - lower key / less expensive ski resort with outdoors activity in summer.

Buena Vista & Salida are gems! Fly into Colorado Springs if you can and then it is like a 1.5 hour drive. You will have hikes, fishing, rafting and some cute downtowns. Not to mention a few local breweries Also not nearly as expensive as Breckenridge.

We went to Crested Butte and Breck a couple years ago. This year we are going back to CB and Durango instead of Breck. Breck is a great town, but “big” for mountain towns.

We prefer lower key, less traveled towns whether at the beach or in the mountains.

You won’t be disappointed in Breck, but I would strongly consider CB as it has much more of an old timey mining town feel to it.

Breck is good if your family wants to do things like restaurants and shopping, as Summit Co has more of that to offer. It is more expensive.

Salida has enough of that though, with great hiking and Arkansas River rafting.

Leadville, BV, Salida, Monarch, CB area. I dislike Breck in general for the same reason I don’t go to Applebees or Chilis.

Little Red Hen bakery in Salida is enough reason to choose Salida. Run down to the sand dunes, hit up Royal gorge, CB Wildflower festival if the timing is right, Colligate peaks, Leadville National fish hatchery, etc.

Durango.

Great downtown
River running through town with raft tours
Great hiking and biking
Narrow gauge railroad
Purgatory with alpine slide and coaster
Mesa verde 45 min away
Ouray 45 min away

If you’ve never been to Colorado, you have to spend time in RMNP. Estes is the jump off spot. Easy drive from Denver. Perhaps white water raft in Fort Collins on the way.

I don't need my other home overrun with you people. Traffic is a pain in the arse enough in the summer as it is.

Thanks for the link. Looks like they are booked all summer, which isn’t surprising

Check out Frisco. Went there pre Covid - nice little town with a few breweries & restaurants, Dillon lake right there for paddle boarding or kayaking, bike rentals and trails everywhere connecting nearby towns (kids enjoyed the shuttle van ride up and bikeride downhill from Vail Pass back to Frisco. Nice midway stop at Copper Mountain).
