Nearly every study on this stuff shows that punishment, regardless of severity, does little to deter crime.

Well, the logical conclusion of this line of thinking is that without humans at all, we would have no human crime to worry about.

I'll let the liberals start the trend. Less humans = less crime. 0 humans = 0 crime. /achievementunlocked

Full steam ahead.

Despite what they claim now in the beginning abortion was pushed as a way to keep the minority populations down. And that's come true as abortion disproportionately impacts minority populations. But the minority populations commit most of the crime soo..

Yes. As is with all forms of murder.

Please define murder for me? It is the killing of a living human being, correct? Why is that wrong I ask you? More than likely, it is because your God told you so in his little list of commandments. So if murder is wrong because your God says so...then do you believe and follow everything your God has said in his book? Do any of the "abortion is baby murder" crowd? Because he clearly states the following in the the 2nd chapter of the 1st book of Genesis, otherwise known as the "creation":

Genesis 2:7

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.(or "being" depending on the version)

That pretty clearly states that God has not given life until you have taken your first breath and humans do not breathe until they have exited the womb. So is one right but not the other? How do you choose which are correct and which are not? Are some metaphorical, but some literal? Kind of seems like you folks just pick and choose the ones you like and ignore the ones you don't.
Whose having crawfish for Easter!! Your God loves when you scarf up those tasty little finless and scaleless crustaceans!! Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Even by sane secular standards abortion would be regressive and barbaric considering birth control is widely available, effective and very often free.

Oh nevermind, I get it now.
You're just a narrow minded bigot.

You do not have to be particularly religious to acknowledge that murdering children is immoral or that oversimplifying complex social issues into one data point is naive, unscientific, and a bit silly.

Also, take a few breaths and calm down before you have a stroke. Can't start a thread that is specifically intended to be controversial and then have a hissy fit when no one takes your bullshite seriously.

As simplistic and irrational as your OP was, now you are just showing bias, emotion, and complete lack of knowledge of the topic at hand. But please, call me more names without knowing anything about me...

There are almost countless taxpayer funded programs to help those that want it

I don't like the idea of these programs. Why am Imonetarily responsible for the actions of these irresponsible, inconsiderate people?

Everyone is in agreement in regards to these people calling them irresponsible, pos's, people just using it for birth control, addicts, etc. Yet, some want to force them to have a kid?
I agree with the disgust of Sally having 3 abortions because she's just that sorry of a person, but i don't want her to have 3 offspring! That's where i diverge.

We're talking about a culture that views doing prison time as a badge of honor, so yeah, a 3-5 year sentence will only make them feel more respected.

It should be legal no matter what happens to the crime rates. But yeah I’m sure expect more crime, expect to pay much more in taxes to support the millions more poor kids, expect the quality of public schools across the country to plummet, etc.

But that’s not why it should be legal though.

Atheists just go around killing and raping everyone because they don't have a list of commandments to follow, they just don't know any better

That's a logical fallacy. Slippery slope.

Abortions should be readily available in urban and poorer rural areas. You get one free, then permanent sterilization if you come back a second time. Tax-free payment if you voluntarily get fixed.

People that are more likely to take quick money will never have children. Within a couple generations there will be very little need for abortions.

Who's doing the study? When common sense and paid-for "study" collide; trust common sense.

Just abolish welfare. If folks had to pay for their offspring they might not have as many children.

Or we could offer a one time payment of $5000 to anyone who gets sterilized.

And if crime did increase we could use the saved money from welfare to build a lot more prisons.

win\win

You forgot to mention all the child molesting catholic priests who get transferred around and allowed to continue molesting.

Seems like their should be more outrage from the anti abortion crowd.

I want abortion illegal because I'd be willing to bet that >98% of abortions are done just because the lazy arse doesn't want to raise a child. Abortion is despicable and using it as a form of birth control makes my blood boil.

There’s a myriad of reasons to have one (we had one because she just lost our baby at 4 months but she got pregnant right after and hadn’t healed at all from it yet, the pregnancy wasn’t viable so was going to die regardless and posed a health risk to her so we made the decision to have one) but no matter what their reason is why is it yours or the governments concern?

If someone feels they aren’t able to / capable of / whatever to raise a child and makes the decision that they don’t want to keep it that is their decision to make. I’m not talking 3rd trimester for something like but the baby isn’t born yet and I’m sorry but I’m not one of those "a human life begins the moment the sperm enters the egg" folks.
