It's all about expectations... hopefully, the motivations of good grades, will become an expectation of good grade as she gets older, so soon she will expect herself to make good grade regardless of the $ reward.

My kids paid me for their good grades, by getting merit scholarships to college.

A new iPad or trip to buy clothes is a good idea for a perk but $1000 is too much unless you let her buy something and put the rest in an account for her savings.

I made good grades because my father would then allow me to watch tv and sleep in his house. I was also not be beaten with a belt.
The schedule went like this...
A's He would say "Awesome job young man".
B's Why didnt you make an A?
C's No tv, movies, or spending the night at friends house until next report card came out.
D's Same as C's except a few swipes of his belt.
Never had an F but my older brother did. C's and D's plus my dad made him mow the front yard of the camphouse with a push mower (not self propelled). The front yard is 6 acres. I helped him out by sitting on the porch telling him to stop "slacking".

I guess I'm the grinch (and my daughter isn't at the age for grades or allowances, so we'll see if my opinion shifts when she gets there), but my opinion has always been the parents shouldn't pay for grades, or a weekly allowance for that matter. Grandparents wanna give the grands some money for grades, or cutting there grass? Sure, we'll probably do it ourselves if we're blessed with grands one day, but giving your child $$ for the same? No way.
I have the opinion that as parents we do a hell of a lot for our child and the least she can do X around the house and make good grades..
I say all that to say that when she gets driving age we'll probably buy her a car, if she needs some extra money to go out with friends, or to do whatever within reason, we'll likely give it to her, but all that's assuming she does the minimum of good grades and whatever chores are expected.
Edit - after reading the comments there have been some good points on how paying could be beneficial, I also like the idea of paying for A's and getting deduct for B's and lower.

I've give my oldest whos now 13 incentives for grades since he was in the 3rd grade. Its just what motivates him and there's nothing wrong with that because that's the way the corporate world works as well. He gets $20 per A, (-5) per B and (-15) per C. He'll have the occasional B, never C's and he looks at his Canvas to check his grades the entire school year. An added benefit is that I've had to help with homework like 3 times in 10 years which is worth it alone IMO. We're about to have to restructure that contract in 2 years when little brother negotiates his salary . When you compare that to private school tuition and tutors and stuff it's peanuts.

We give our kids $20 for every A on their report card, but it has to go into their savings account. My FIL matches it, so really they get $40.
The OP said the deal was $1000 for all A's the entire year. If your kid made all A's for a year they would probably make something similar under their $40 an A set up.
This is really not as much as people are making it out to be if your kid busts their arse and makes straight A's for an entire school year.
$1000 isn't what it used to be when a lot of were kids.

I would ask for the money back if the grades get shitty

$1000 is a shite ton less than you would pay a tutor for the year if your kid is smart enough and all they need is the motivation.
Why would I pay a tutor if my kid was smart enough and only lacking in motivation?

if they make 4.0 for the year i do allow them to buy something bigger and usually bring them out to dinner one at a time to the restruant of thier choice.
but frick paying 1k, that is their job to make those grades. I pay for food, house, thousands upon thousands for sports, toys, bikes etc....
i am blessed with great kids though that understand the importance of school even at very young ages so i dont have to worry about that. also they are extremely competitive with one another and their classmates and cant stand to not have the best grades.

My dad never acted like he cared that I made good grades and my mom would take me out to eat somewhere nice when I made honor roll. My dad was very blue collar and high school dropout...so he was never impressed by academics.

Count me among those who got an "well how about that" combined with an approving look from my father for getting all As, before he went back to reading the newspaper

I view it the same way, just through a slightly different lens.
I taught them that school is their job and primary source of income.
I don't spend a lot on my kids for gifts, even for bdays and christmas. They each have the potential to earn $1K plus for their "work performance" at school (their current job).
My 6th grader bought a xbox last year with his school money and was very proud of himself. I much prefer this method than "santa" or me having to spoil his arse with it for bday or christmas. If you want to have something of value, earn it.

I give my daughter what my grandparents gave me 25+ yrs ago- $1 for each A.

It’d be about $1200 for the whole year, depending on their electives. Some electives aren’t included in the deal.
We started it as a way for them to build their savings and incentivize them to develop good study habits. It has worked in both regards. Son is a senior and has 2 full academic scholarship offers, and a couple more partial ones.

I used to hit with "I buy you clothes and feed you right? That's your payment".

I think it is a capital idea (see what I did there?) Seriously though, it is a good life lesson. People that work harder / smarter make more money.
