We already have stalemated trench warfare being fought on a lunar hellscape akin to Passchendaele; now we even have chemical weapons being deployed. It’s unreal how this war is devolved into a redux of WWI.

CS was the first chemical weapon used in WWI. Before Germany developed and deployed chlorine gas in 1915, the French used CS gas in 1914.

As much as this is stated, WWI was so much worse. For example in the battle of Verdun, roughly 200,000 artillery shells were fired DAILY for 10 months.

Please don’t try to lecture me of all people on the basics of WWI. I’ve studied that war for over four decades. What I was saying is the nature of the fighting is akin to that of WWI. Of course it’s not on the same scale. But the nature of the fighting is very similar.

You should be required to carry a large potted plant around with wherever you go to replace the oxygen wasted by your useless existence.

Feodosia, Crimea. Strike in the port area. Sounds of explosions and presumably air defence activity is reported.

BIG secondary detonation after strike on the port of Feodosia, Crimea!

Russian media - “Residents began reporting about the first “explosions” and bangs on social networks at about 02:50, after which a fire and bangs started in the port area - they lasted more than 30 minutes. Rescue workers were sent to the scene. About 20 minutes ago, a powerful explosion occurred in the port area.

There are no official comments from the authorities at the moment.”

Russian ropucha class landing ship “Novocherkask” was sunk in occupied Crimea according to Ukrainian Air Force commanding general telegram channel

According to Wikipedia the Novocherkask was damaged early in the war.

quote:

cherkassk (ex-BDK-46) #142 Commissioned: Gdansk Shipyard 30 November 1987 Current Assignment: Black Sea Fleet Status: Active Comments: Damaged on 24 March 2022 in a Ukrainian attack in the port of Berdiansk during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[25]

This was a Ropucha Class landing ship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ropucha-class_landing_ship
quote:

The Project 775, NATO reporting name Ropucha class (Polish for Toad), is a class of landing ship (large landing ship in Soviet classification) built in Poland for the Soviet Navy. The ships were built in the Stocznia Pólnocna shipyards in Gdansk, Poland. They were designed for beach landings, and can carry a 450-ton cargo. The ships have both bow- and stern-doors for loading and unloading vehicles, and the 630 square metres (6,800 sq ft) of vehicle deck stretches the length of the hull. Up to 25 armored personnel carriers can be embarked.

While designed for roll-on/roll-off operations, they can also be loaded using dockside cranes. For this purpose there is a long sliding hatch-cover above the bow section for access to the vehicle deck. There are no facilities for helicopters.

In total, 28 ships of this type were commissioned from 1975 to 1991. The last three ships were of the improved variant Project 775M, also called Ropucha II. These have improved defensive armament and accommodation for a greater number of troops.

Project 775: 12
Project 775M: 3

How many more of these can Russia afford to lose?
