INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 24 July 2023

All Russian school children are to be taught the basics of operating combat drones. Russian Senator Artem Sheikin announced that the lessons will include how to conduct terrain reconnaissance and ways to counter enemy uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The UAV lessons join assault rifle training, hand grenade skills and combat first aid in the revised 'Basics of Life Safety' syllabus for year 10 and 11 students, due to be mandated from 1 September 2023.

Russia's renewed emphasis on military induction for children is largely an effort to cultivate a culture of militarised patriotism rather than develop genuine capability. However, the addition of UAV skills does highlight how Russia has identified the use of tactical UAVs in Ukraine as an enduring component of contemporary war.

?? russia has modernized the X-22 missiles, making them more accurate and increasing the range, said Yurii Ihnat, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The X-32 is a version of the X-22, which was put into service quite recently in the 16th year in the russian federation and made its range longer. And the accuracy is probably higher there than that of the old Soviet, inaccurate destructive X-22. And yes, in general, in principle, it is a modernized X-22. The question is how many of them managed to be produced. But the fact that they were already used is certain,"- said Yurii Ihnat.

Overall the post is quite hysterical, Rybar says Ukrainians are getting ready for the next phase of offensive by taking out loads of Russian artillery. "The problem should not be solved by silencing it but by active measures".

The CIC owns it. HC is a vile person but. BHO owns his FP failures just as GB does.

Biden & NATO either need to give the the equipment needed to win or let Russia take eastern Ukraine.

Allow western Ukraine into NATO and be done with it.the war.

Give them F-16 with JASSM missiles. Like some people have already said, the key to reduce the suffering of this war will be to allow for a decisive victory.

Serious question: is it impossible to see any merit Russia’s position and be intellectually honest?

No.

Russia invaded a sovereign nation who posed no threat to Russia. Even is Ukraine joined NATO they would pose no threat to Russia. NATO is a defensive alliance not an offensive one.

I'd imagine some pretty effective anti-drone systems are on the horizon. In another generation, I'd imagine they won't be nearly the factor that they are today. That is, if we invest adequately in anti-drone technology. Surely we are.

Interesting thread about the rise in desertion rates for Russia since 2021 along with situations and outcomes for those charged with it. Long thread, won't clutter up the page with it all.

https://twitter.com/ChrisO_wiki/status/1683541096113029126

quote:

1/ The number of criminal cases for desertion from the Russian army has more than tripled since 2021, according to a new analysis by Mediazona. Meanwhile, likely due to chaotic record-keeping, captured Russian soldiers and wounded men in hospital face desertion charges.

2/ Mediazona reports that Russia's military courts are dealing with over 100 desertion cases a week, with 2,076 such cases in the first half of 2023 alone – twice as much as for the whole of 2022 and three times more than in 2021. The great majority involve mobiliised soldiers.

More information on the Ukrainian ports of Izmail and Reni located on the Danube river that Russia attacked last night.

Last night Russia hit shipping infrastructure in Reni, literally right across the Danube from Romania. Russian precision is good enough to attack targets 500 meters from a NATO country, yet we’re asked to believe that they blindly lob these missiles at residential areas.

When a ship arrives at the "roads", outside of a port, time begins to count and delays in berthing, much less loading, will incur demurrage against the shipper. Additionally, insurance rates for both the ship and the cargo will be higher in a war zone.

It seems that Russia's goal is more about driving up the cost to ship from Ukraine than anything else

I've read two different Ukrainian reports today that say that they have made real progress in south Kherson, and not just in the dachas north of Oleshky, but that due to OPSEC, they won't publish the details until the news appears in Russian channels.

The Kakhovka Reservoir is now as dry as a bone in most areas. If you notice the big rectangle of water, that's the holding pond for the nuclear power plant.

The power plant and its accompanying city of Enerhodar is an important secondary objective of Ukraine's offensive. The plant produces an enormous amount of energy and is important for Ukraine's economy in the long term, and there's obviously great risk as long as its in Russian hands.

So, if Ukraine decided to attempt an offensive across the reservoir, taking Enerhodar and the plant could be the focus of such a plan. Something like this:

I think that Ukraine will try something like this eventually. The fact that the current offensive in the South is not taking ground very quickly might drive a renewed look at alternative areas to attack.
