Using cluster bombs isn’t a war crime anyway. Only the Europeans and people who can’t afford them think they should be banned. And Europeans and poor countries don’t matter.

If I were a Wagner merc, I’d be plumb happy to be told I’m going in after Russias military has been degraded and cluster munitions have been delivered

@NOELreports with an update on the Velyka Novosilka axis (the Vremivsky Ridge axis):

quote:

- AFU advanced north of Pryyutne from the NE and W of the town. Fighting is now on the outskirts.

- AFU progressed into the first streets of Staromaiors'ke.

- AFU bypassed Novodonets'ke and advanced west of it to create a bigger flank to attack Urozhaine.

The progress on this axis is slow and steady. Ukraine is still about seven miles from the main Russian defense line in this area.

Unfortunately for Ukraine, on the Orikhiv-Tokmak axis, the 47th Mechanized Brigade seems to be in total chaos today.

From @MilitaryLand.net:

quote:

Valery Markus, Chief Master Sergeant of Ukrainian 47th Mechanized Brigade, has asked to be demoted to a lower position.

He says he disagreed with decisions made regarding the deployment and development of 47th Brigade and there is incompetence of the officer corps.

He also says that the deputy commander of 47th Mechanized Brigade, Maj. Ivan Shalamaha, is amoral degenerate and working with him humiliates his honor and dignity.

In anyone remembers, the 47th was very much hyped up before the offensive began. Here was their profile in the Washington Post:

quote:

The brigade’s leadership trained with computers that simulated situations they might face in real life. Deputy commander Maj. Ivan Shalamaha and others planned their assaults and then let the program show them the results — how their Russian enemies might respond, where they could make a breakthrough and where they would suffer losses.
quote:

“You understand the overall picture, how it works,” Shalamaha said. “You understand where and what your shortcomings were. And we pay attention to what we failed to do during this simulation.”
quote:

The 47th brigade started as a battalion that Shalamaha and Valerii Markus, a famous veteran and author with more than 450,000 Instagram followers, were charged with creating. It eventually grew to a full-fledged brigade intended to break through enemy lines.

“I realized that there was indeed an opportunity to create something — something interesting, something important, which could then grow into something much bigger,” Markus said.

“When I joined the army 12 years ago, I encountered a lot of things that disappointed me very much, that made me hate the army,” he added. “When I received this offer, I saw it as an opportunity to build a unit in which I would have liked to serve 12 years ago.”
quote:

The 47th’s leadership is also especially young — all born after the fall of the Soviet Union. Alongside Shalamaha, who is 25, Lt. Col. Oleksandr Sak, the brigade’s top commander, is 28. Markus, the chief master sergeant, is 29.
quote:

But the biggest change? They didn’t just accept anyone, interviewing every soldier who wanted to join the brigade. Commanders questioned each person’s motivation and readiness. Every candidate had to pass a physical fitness test.
quote:

“We are ready,” Shalamaha said. “We have the motivation of people, we have the equipment and the most valuable thing we have is the spirit to win.”

So, Shalamaha and Markus put this brigade together themselves. Now, Markus says that Shalamaha is a moral degenerate and humiliates his honor and dignity.

The 47th has now lost 32 Bradleys since the start of the Ukrainian offensive, and they still have not taken Robotyne.

The offensive has now been underway for five weeks. It might be time to rotate the 47th out.

Those guys must have been racing from a stock-provided set of pace notes. If they had done a recon there is no way all of them would have gotten that corner so wrong.*

The curve isn't off-camber, the surface is nicely prepped, and doesn't look like there would be any grip change mid-corner. That is probably a 3+/4 corner and the pace notes had it listed as a 5 or 6.

One thing Igor Sushko is actually good for is racing info.

* they are Russian so anything in the frick up area should be believable.

Then again...

@warupdater

Ukrainians are recovering the M2A2 Bradleys, the Leopard 2A6 and the BREM-1 recovery vehicle that were destroyed by the Russians at the start of the offensive. It seems like the 47th Brigade is now fully controlling this area.

Certainly. I'm sure that a number of the 32 Bradleys hit can be recovered.

But the point is that the performance of the 47th has been poor, and now it's most famous member (who has some 400k followers on social media) is publicly accusing his commanders of incompetence.

That's just unacceptable. Zaluzhny needs to give another brigade a chance to show what it can do, and the 47th needs to be reorganized, with new leadership.

Yes, it felt great for us to conquer that territory, intimidate the natives, and plant the NATO flag on top the graves of those who dared to oppose us.
