They need to stop the bullshite in the 47th if the CO and XO are at each other’s throats. Ukraine needs to be looking at their lieutenants and captains, the junior officers, to step up into a larger leadership role. I think there’s still too much Soviet thinking in the senior officer ranks. These are under 30 though so that shouldn’t be an issue. There’s something else underlying that we don’t know and no one knows most likely outside of that unit. This is why beyond the regular training NATO countries have been doing with the Ukrainians I would hope if they don’t already have them implemented, that there are special training courses for both junior officers and NCOs. That’s the strength of our military and it needs to be that same way with Ukraine if they hope to accomplish their goals. They can’t keep charging into minefields that enemy artillery has zeroed in on with their guns and hope for a good outcome. Yeah we are sending more Bradley’s and the Abrams haven’t made it yet but the outcome will be the same. They know the playbook they have to run to have success when they do not own the airspace. Until they get enough modern fighters to keep the Russians honest and keep their Ka-52s from hunting tanks from the safety of their own lines, they have to use their precision weapons to keep chipping away at forward command posts and ammo dumps and keep inching the Russians backward while not putting their new armored vehicles in danger. Also if NATO is really serious about Ukraine winning this war then they need to hand over at least a couple dozen Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG that have their maximum range so they can put the Kerch Bridge into the water.

The problem is that Ukraine never tried to join NATO, the public was never in favor of this until 2022. They didn't give a crap what Bill and Tony thought.

Pretty sure they were working towards meeting the military requirements prior to 2014. After that it was all dropped

The have partnered with NATO not any differently but less than Finland and Switzerland have.

It is part of their Declaration of Sovereignty of Ukraine in 1990 that puts them as a neutral nation not aligned with anyone else militarily.

There have been campaigns to get the public to support joining NATO for a two decades, but they supported joining, it was never going to happen.

Finland didn't seek actual membership until they went from around 2/3 against joinng to 2/3 for joining in 2022.

It is funny watching loudmouths like you get out over their skis. If you are incapable of making a cogent argument against the post of his you responded to then just admit it. It looks a lot worse to sky-scream about nonsequiturs and look unhinged and incapable of making an argument past ad hominem than it does just to admit you were wrong. Before you pop off half-cocked again follow the thread back and make sure you have the chain of post responses correct.

A Ukrainian member of parliament, Nardepka Lyudmila Marchenko, accepted a $5300 bribe to give a drafted man an exit permit that would allow him to leave the country.

When investigators approached her house, she ran to get the money and throw it over her fence, unaware that she was already on camera.

Yep. That's a three star.
I know it's confusing to Americans, but the Russian ranks and names don't correspond with American ones. Russians don't have brigadier generals; a Russian one-star is a major general and a Russian lieutenant general is a two star. See Wikipedia. In other words, Russian Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov was a two-star general, not a three-star.

New York Times: Biden weighs sending Ukraine ATACMS missiles

Officials from the U.S. and Europe say the Biden administration is debating whether to arm Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles, the New York Times reports.

Reuters:

July 11 (Reuters) - The British government said on Tuesday it will provide Ukraine with more than 70 combat and logistic vehicles, thousands of rounds of ammunition for Challenger 2 tanks, and a 50 million pound ($64.7 million) support package for equipment repair.

Also, more Australian aid:

quote:

Zelenskyi confirmed that Australia agreed on a new military arms package for Ukraine, including 30 Bushmasters. The Bushmaster is an armored wheeled vehicle for patrol duties and transporting infantrymen.

Ukraine applied to integrate with a NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) in 2008. Plans for NATO membership were shelved by Ukraine following the 2010 presidential election in which Viktor Yanukovych, who preferred to keep the country closer to Russia, was elected President.

It wasn't going to happen then but it was more than Finland or Switzerland did at the time. I may be wrong though.

Interesting Twitter thread on NATO ammo production increases:

quote:

Thread?? :The United States + just 6 of the many European artillery ammo makers will ramp up to over 2.5 million 155mm arty rounds per year. For reference this is a single country and 6 companies. (There are dozens of other company’s making artillery ammo that can go to Ukraine)

LINK

The British defence secretary suggested Ukraine needed to put more emphasis on saying thank you for western help when he was asked about President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s complaints on Tuesday that the country had not been issued a firm timetable or set of conditions for joining Nato.

Ben Wallace said such was the Ukrainians haste to get all the help they could meant they did not always say they were grateful for the help received. “Whether we like it or not, people want to see a bit of gratitude,” the minister said at a briefing in the margins of the Nato summit in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

“Sometimes you are asking countries to give up their own stocks” of weapons and said making repeated demands from the west could risk alienating some key constituencies. “Sometimes you have to persuade lawmakers on the [Capitol] Hill in America,” he added.

Wallace revealed that he had travelled to Ukraine last year to be presented with a shopping list of weapons. “You know, we’re not Amazon,” he said. “I told them that last year, when I drove 11 hours to be given a list.”

But he said he understood Zelenskiy was speaking to his own public and that despite his complaint on Tuesday, the final summit deal was a good one for Ukraine. There was an acceptance that “Ukraine belongs at Nato” and that amounted to an effective invitation for membership whenever the conflict died down.

Really interesting. Zelensky is such a compelling public figure, but one reads this kind of thing regularly. He and his team are not particularly good diplomats. The anger from Zelensky yesterday about the text of the NATO invitation was ridiculous.

Yesterday, Zelensky attacked Biden. Today, he will ask him for ATACMS. Doesn't seem like good strategy.

Some reports of Ukrainian progress this morning in Wagner's Grey Zone Telegram channel:

quote:

In the Bakhmut (Artemovsky) direction, the enemy continued attacks with the forces of the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade (OMBr) in the Berkhovka area, being on the southwestern outskirts of the village.
quote:

In the Zaporizhia direction: acting from the starting lines in the Orekhovo region, the enemy, with the forces of the 47th and 65th Motorized Brigade, despite losses as a result of the battles on July 10-11, managed to break through our defense line and partially gain a foothold north of Rabotino, advancing to 1km. Having created a junction between units, practically along the border of the settlement, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are planning to gain a foothold in the Uspenskaya beam area, concentrating firepower and assault groups in the southeast direction from Rabotino, creating a threat of coverage.
quote:

I’ll add ... that on the right flank of Bakhmut, the enemy from the 56th Motorized Rifle Brigade managed to gain a foothold on one of the heights east of the settlement. Orekhovo-Vasilyevka and almost reach the Bakhmut-Slavyansk highway.

Before this war started, had you told me there would be another major European war and it would become a stalemate similar to that seen on the Western Front in WWI, I’d have said you’ve lost your mind.

Yet, here we are.

The latest dispatch from Girkin sets a new tone. He suggests that the Wagner revolt was successful in that it began the transfer of influence from Putin’s oligarchs to a different set of oligarchs that want to end the war without regard to the cost to Russia. He suggests that the faction taking over will work against battlefield success to hasten the transfer of power. Interesting if true. War Translated on Twitter

how about that fricktard? Is that enough for you?

So you failed to actually address anything AU said and just threw out why you think Russia invaded Ukraine. So not enough for this fricktard. Could you try again?
